Adult ADHD diagnosed 1 week ago..........?!

Question: I am 35 years old & had a life changing moment last week talking with the psychiatrist. Went over every psych test they have & I fit ADHD 100% back to elementary school through now 30's. I have been being treated for anxiety with no relief 15 years.

Doctor started me on 35 mg of Vyvanse. Felt the best I have felt since I can remember for 4 days & then it started wearing off, I got anxious & tired. Yesterday & today I have took the full dose of 70 mg & I get a horrible headache and got on edge and VERY irritable and fidgety & feel hot around 4 pm. take medicine @ 7 am.

I came home last night and took 2 mg of Xanax and 1 Ambien and still couldn't go to sleep until 1 am. I felt better as far as the anxiousness & the irritability but I woke up today in a total fog & in a horrible mood. I took the Vyvanse again this morning. Today, same symptoms around 4 & I took 1 Xanax today & 1/2 ambien when I got home & 30 mins later calm, not irritable, still not sleeping. What's up?

Hi. I was diagnosed a few years ago at 28, and it certainly comes as a shock that ADHD was what is wrong, isn't it?
I've tried Ritalin, Adderall only to get too thin. A new doctor had me on Lamictal, a mood stabilizer because I was becoming so frustrated, that was awful!!
What finally is working really great for over a year now is Wellbutrin.
It is normally prescribed as an antidepressant, but some docctors really like for adult ADHD. The stimulant in it is more mild and in the XL form has a really good, even release mechanism. I take 150 mgs at 8 and it starts to wear off at 10 or 11 pm. I only take 5 mgs of Ambien (a small dose) for sleep.
I know on other meds, 4 was like the witching hour for me, too.
Next time you see your doctor, maybe ask if this would be right for you. I would stick with 10 mgs of Ambien at first, and lower it if you feel you can, so it's easier to wake up.
I know it's frustrating, I wish you good luck!!

ok, having ADHD, I know how you feel. What I did was tried diffrent medications for about a week each to find which one i was comfortable with.I first started with adderal, then concerta, than ritalin and then Statera. I might have spelled a couple of these things but try them. Also, be careful, doctors take advantage of people and diagnose people who are just very figuty sometimes. The test is not a guarentee.

i am sorry, I have no idea. But one thing I tell you, don't consume medications as you like it. Always consult a doctor to fix the name, dose and frequency of it.
