Does anyone have a parent with NPD (narcissistic personality disorder)?!

Question: Are they difficult to deal with?

Answers: Are they difficult to deal with?

Yes, my mother. I survived by learning how to put myself first - my needs, my feelings. Because living next to her, I became invisible. It was always "all about her". She had 9 children. When asked "why" by friends and neighbors, her response unabashedly was "so I'd never be alone". We were trained early to care for her needs first and foremost. Some of us became enlightened on her personality disorder, some still live under her manipulation. Among other characteristics, she is emotionally immature, self-centered, of course narcissistic and with a cruel streak. There were times when she'd appear O.K. but one could never count on it for long, so I detached from her emotionally. I still have trouble trusting and have never married. My advice - take care of yourself first. That is your first responsibility.

No I don't but does anyone have one for a husband?

I have an uncle that has it, and its affects were devasting on my cousin. My cousin has lived with us for a long time so she is like my sister. She had to move out because her dad just was not able to care about her the way a normal dad should. He cared about his life...the women in his life(who were awful and also had personality disorders) and nothing else except what gave him happiness. Shes happy with us now though and, after councelling, got over her dad.

Yes, but I wish you had given a little more information about your situation.,....

Yeah, my dad has NPD. It is so hard to do things sometimes because it is always about him not me. He gets really argumental to sometimes. If thats what you talking about then yeah my dad has it.
