What is a nervous breakdown?!
Question: And are there any long term effects?
Answers: And are there any long term effects?
a nervous breakdown would pretty much affect your entire social and occupational self. If you were to experience a nervous breakdown you might either feel extreme sadness or extreme numbness. The person may feel like it is the end of the world or may not even realize they are in this world anymore. I worked with a special education teacher who experienced a nervous breakdown and let me tell you she really went "crazy". The kids that she was teaching would run to my classroom screaming tha their teacher was acting weird. She would either be laughing for no reason or rolling around on the floor. She sometimes did crazy things like "lets all paint a picture....woooooo" and of course some of the kids thought it was funny. Then she started walking like a little old lady, shuffling her feet and keeping her hands in mid air (kinda like Mr. Burns on the Simpsons) - mind you she was only about 24 years old.
The last I had seen or heard of her, she had to quit her job and was under some serious medication and therapy.

It's different for different ppl. Complete psychological overload would be one short way to put it. The answerbag link above does a good job describing it. The Mayo one is too focused on depression IMO.
