I am 16 and I have severe anxiety and Panic Attacks.?!

Question: I have been having panic attacks since I got my first tattoo. About 1 1/2 years ago. I didn't mind them at first because I would just get the really sick stomach feeling. Over time, It got worse and it keeps getting worse. Atleast I think it is.

Right now for the past 2 months I have had breathing probelems, at times I can't take deep breaths because it doesn't feel like I am getting enough air. Like a 1/2 yawn.

I have been having a dry throat for the past 5 days and sometimes a bubble in my throat that makes me panic because I am a smoker, Heavy for that matter (pack+a day) and I am thinking I have Emphazima or something.

I have consulted my doctor before and he gave me Lorazepam and when I started that I have been getting migraines and thats when my breathing started acting up.

Rapid heartbeat and everything when I am just relaxing. I am only 16, I have stopped going to school because of the panic attacks, I won't find a job or anything, I just want my life back. Help please?

Panic/anxiety attacks are HORRIBLE! I used to suffer from and I understand how difficult they can be.

Is there anything in your life that could be subconciously causing this panic? Is there anything unresolved issues or anything stressing you? For example, I used to get that sick feeling in my stomach thinking about times when I had taken recreational drugs. It eventually got worse and worse and my step-granddad (who I didn't even like, let alone was close to) dying pushed me over the edge and I began having severe anxiety attacks every day. Discussing this with my family and a therapist helped me work through this and pinpoint what it was my mind was struggling to process.

Doctors are not overly helpful in this sense as they will only prescribe medications to mask the problem rather than get to the bottom of it.

I would strongly recommend you see a therapist of some sort to discuss what could be causing it. Also yoga, meditation, hypnotherapy and even chakra healing are really helpful. It all sounds like voodoo but I'm a strong believer in natural therapies. It worked for me ;)

I think you should see a doctor about your throat because that may very well be caused from your smoking. It would be a great idea to quit as well as this may also be effecting your panic attacks as in you know it's not good for you, yet you do it anyway, so you are aware that you are harming yourself to a certain degree (which was the case with me and taking drugs).

The fact that they began when you got your first tattoo could hold some signifigance also as you are only 16 now and a tattoo (believe it or not) can be a hard thing for someone to come to terms with as they are a permanent thing. They subconciously encourage people to think about the concepts of life, death and forever. Concepts that young people don't know or understand which in turn cause subconcious fear.

I think you should make your current focus on your mental and physical health at the moment and I'm sure you'll pull through! You can worry about a job when you're on top of everything.

Best of luck x

Go see a psychologist or psychotherapist, not just any old therapist or doctor. You need professional help with this, I know because I have this as well, rapid heartbeat and all.

well one thing panic attacks are all in youre head there isnt actually anything happening to youre body when you are having one, its all about controling what makes you panic in the first place then calming yourself down, these are some of the main reasons people have panic attacks

i) 'Fear of the unknown', which causes an increase in general anxiety levels and make an attack more likely
ii) Over-stimulated nervous and hormonal systems caused by heightened general anxiety
iii) Conditioning - the mind
