Talking/Doing stuff in my sleep...reason for concern?!

Question: Lately I am told, and I have actually woke myself up, doing stuff in my sleep. Mostly just talking, but I find I am catching myself and waking up as I do it.
Sometimes I am sort of aware of what is going on around me...I have sensed someone walking by, and I'll start talking to them, and wake up like half a minute later. I have shouted a few times, calling someone's name, or, for example, once I woke myself up shouting "Shut up!" to an empty house.
One night I woke up as I was spitting on my pillow, which was pretty thoroughly, uhm, gross.

I have not had this problem in the past, it's only really been the past couple of months...I'm not on medications or anything, nor did I take any before. I am getting pretty regular sleep for 6-8 hours a night. There's a good amount of stress/anxiety affecting me lately, mostly college, but I know I've been worse off in the past. It's especially embarrassing, however...is it really reason for concern?
Wait for summer and see if it gets better?

You are experiencing very active REM sleep which causes your brain waves to be excited and move in rapid patterns. This will get more intense as more stress or a specific bothersome situation occurs in your life unless you find someway to relax and take a breather just before you go to bed. I always stare at a lit up animated pic of the beach and take deep breaths before I go to sleep. It has stopped my nightmares. That being said, I have seen people who have overactive brain waves as they age and it causes a lack of sleep to the point that there daily life was more irritable. In mild cases, melatonin over the counter was prescribed. In severe cases more concentrated meds were given with great success. There are side effects so read up on whatever the doc gives you if you decide to get a sleep study to research it. My suggestion, first try the meditation, then the melatonin, then spend the money if you need to going to the doc. Good luck.

Would you be able to record yourself while you sleep? With a cam-cord? Or digital camera?
I've been told I do crazy crap while I sleep and I am concerned, but it's mainly since my son passed on.
You could call your local hospital and ask about help, the cost and how long it might take. I would not, in any way, agree to taking drugs; they might make matters worse. Especially if you are getting 6-8 hrs sleep a night.
Good Luck!!
Sleep Tight and don't worry so much!!
