I think I have a problem...can someone help (serious answers please)?!

Question: Um, ok, so this is my problem. It's going to sound so silly, but here goes. It started in late June of '07, during driving school when I was bored and I had nothing to do. So basically I listened to the same song over and over again one day around 30 times. In a week it got worse, and it was like 50 times. By the end of August, it was always stuck in my head and I listened to it about 95% of the time that I listened to music. But then school started and I listened to it all the time while I was doing my schoolwork. And I wouldn't (and I still don't) put it on repeat, I just go back to the beginning every time it ends. But to this day, I still have the same problem, listening to the same song anywhere between 30 and 100 times per day. I don't know what the problem is, really, I don't. And it's been the same song all the way through, from June until now, if I didn't make that clear before. I think I am addicted to the song but *really* badly...anyone have any help/advice/comments about?

Im assuming the song is Somewhere I Belong. I ? that song, so for me, if I were you, it wouldn't be a problem.

Here is the difinition of OCD. You decide if this sounds like you...

Obsessions are defined by:

1.Recurrent and persistent thoughts, impulses, or images that are experienced at some time during the disturbance, as intrusive and inappropriate and that cause marked anxiety or distress.
2.The thoughts, impulses, or images are not simply excessive worries about real-life problems.
3.The person attempts to ignore or suppress such thoughts, impulses, or images, or to neutralize them with some other thought or action.
4.The person recognizes that the obsessional thoughts, impulses, or images are a product of his or her own mind, and are not based in reality.

Compulsions are defined by:

1.Repetitive behaviors or mental acts that the person feels driven to perform in response to an obsession, or according to rules that must be applied rigidly.
2.The behaviors or mental acts are aimed at preventing or reducing distress or preventing some dreaded event or situation; however, these behaviors or mental acts either are not connected in a realistic way with what they are designed to neutralize or prevent or are clearly excessive.

Well, it depends.. what song is it?

if you like the song
listen to it!
You will eventually get tired of it...
and if you dont you will always know your favorite song!
look for other songs by that band
or other bands like it!

what song is it?
i would really like to know
:D

Sounds like a form of OCD. Maybe you should talk to your doctor about it.

Either this is a joke or you have OCD. Obessive Compulsive Disorder. You can get help for it by seeking help through a Mental Health professional. It might just start with a song but can take over a lot more areas of your life. If it is truly happening I would suggest you get help now while it is just a song. OCD is not a joke and not something to take lightly. It can be helped.

what is the song??
it's just a bad habit, try to listen to it less and less each day until you don't listen to it anymore,if you can't do that,go to a docter, you may have OCD

This sounds like OCD. Obsessive compulsive disorder. It's pretty common so I wouldn't worry too much about it. Of course, go see someone so you can get on medication so you aren't driving yourself and everyone else crazy.

Could be OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). Are you also a neat freak, or someone who checks to see if the door is locked several times in a row. Or wash your hands repeatedly, or check appliances to see if they are turned off more than once. If you do any of this stuff that is probably what you have. If so there is medications for the condition that really help.

wow I've never heard of anything like that, but i'd advice you to first try to meditate as weird as this is going to sound it might work. Your mind and body is a really strong machine and you CAN control it. And if you just can't focus on anything else talk to your doctor, it seems like it has taken over your life. :(

I hope everything goes back to normal soon for you. <3

if its a jam, its not a problem

There must be something about the song you relate to so much it has become your life, it's just a habit for you (a very uncommon one) and you have to get rid of it the same way you would with any other bad habit.

there's this pod cast by Bellenruth Naparstek that will be able to help with that. within a week the habit will be gone just be open to new stuff but it ain't hippy crap just to make that clear

Sounds like the classic OCD to me. My guess is there are other areas of your life where you could see parallels to this. Maybe you wash your hands overly frequently, or something like that. You really need to seek treatment now while you are still young. If you don't you will end up with some serious OCD issues later on. Look here to learn more about the disorder.

that sounds like OCD when you do something over and over and over again.
Do you have that habit with other things? Like washing your hands 100x, or checking to make sure the door is locked 2000 x ?? etc?
If so, you probably have a form of OCD...see a DR he can help ease that~!

lol everyone is saying its OCD. You dont just go OC over one thing, its lots of things. i dont think OCD. if you like the song that much, it could just be that you like it. When i like a song, like off a new cd, i will listen to that song over and over, until i get a new cd, then i find i song i like on that and listen to it over and over. And i dont have OCD. I personally thinks its no biggy. Its helping you concentrate, its not causing you any problems, so there shouldnt be a problem.

Obsessive compulsive disorder can make you do things that even you don't see the reason for. It's easy to get addicted to a song, all of us do. Is rewinding this song interfering with other stuff you want to do? If you tried to force yourself not to do it, would it cause anxiety or discomfort? Have you noticed that this feeling of having to do rewind it is similar to other feelings that didn't make sense (like having to throw items away at home instead of where you are at the time? or tapping light switches x amount of times)

Anyway, my advice it to destroy the CD and deal with the aftermath. If you can't bring yourself to destroy it or freak out when it's gone, you have to go to the doctor. OCD is a tough condition to live with and the doctor will know what behavior excersizes will help or if there is a medication that would be better.

If it was me, I'd leave it cold turkey for a few months then try hearing it again when the summer is over.

duno if this is a joke or not but if it isnt, i really think it could be OCD or just a really great song

Relax.
It's an awesome song anyway! I can understand why you can't stop listening to it.
Just take a breath, and start to gradually stop listening to it.
If you feel an urge, STOP! and do some air guitar or something.
Over time, you'll still listen to it again and again, but not as much! =]
