Do people tend to spend more money when they are depressed?!


Question: When people are bipolar they may go into a manic phase and spend more money. Most people that are depressed dont necessarily spend more money because there is little motivation to get out of the house. However shopping and spending money can be a stress reliever just like eating so in that sense they may spend more money.

Maybe. Retail therapy works for me sometimes. But other times I don't even want to get out of bed, let alone go out and shop.

I know I do.
I will like to go to a store and buy something to put in my house that will cheer me up like a new picture for the wall or new furniture, that sort of thing.

That said I am a big thrift store shopper so I don't go overboard, but yes, I really DO spend more when I am depressed and I think a lot of other people do too.
