How to adapt myself?!

Question: I am having trouble in school, and I seem to be doing horrible. I am in the 8th grade. I used to do really well, but now it seems as if I just don't care, even though I do. My parents seem to think I don't care, but like I said, I do! What do I do? I tried to get a tutor, but the tutor said that it would be a waste of his time, and he was going to talk to my teachers to see if I cared. I don't know what they said, but we haven't heard back from him. So, I guess that means he doesn't want to tutor me.

I really need some help, because these choices can affect the rest of my life, and I would like to be a lawyer when I grow up, which most likely won't happen if I don't adapt myself to my school work.

I will try just about anything, if theres something that has been known to work, let me know.

Btw, I have ADHD, so I have been prescribed Concetta, but it makes me depressed, and gives me dark thoughts about death and suicide so I stopped taking it.

Please, I need help!

Well, if you really do care, you will do all of your homework all of the time. Don't put it off. When you get home from school is the time to do it. If you are involved in any extra-curricular activities, such as sports, then you must drop them because you need the extra time to study. Also, if you don't understand something in class, stop the teacher and ask questions. It just seems a little strange to me that so many different people insist that you "don't care" about learning. There has to be a reason why they're saying that. Realistically, I think if you were to add up all the time spent during a period of 1 week doing homework and studying, you'd find that you're not putting as much effort into it as you'd like to think you are.

adderall XR??
worked for me...

First, I would talk to your parents - seriously. You need to be the one to initiate the conversation.

ADHD is hard to overcome sometimes. Do your parents know that you stopped taking the meds? It could be that a different med would help you. If your parents do not listen, make an appointment with the school counselor. He or she will be able to give you ideas or help you do better. Plus, the school counselor is someone that is neutral and can be a good person to close the gap between you and your parents.

Are you turning in your homework - all of it? When I was your age, homework was the reason I got bad grades. Make sure you do it. Are you having trouble concentrating? Again, that could be ADHD (obviously). My brother has it, and was on Adderall for a long time. When he was about 17 he weaned off of it. I'm sure you, like him, are very smart. He does best if he has a strict schedule - you can try setting up a schedule and stick to it. Make rules for yourself.

I think I would try the school counselor, though - you might be able to get the farthest that way.
