I need a better answer then drinking?!

Question: I'm feeling really bad and Everyones always told me drinking relaxes them, I know its true, and I really need to relax. The only way my friend and me can think of for me to relax and forget about everything bugging me is:
1. Smoking(I will NEVER smoke)
2. Sleep(I can't sleep considering I just woke up from a nap)
3. Blowing something up(I have nothing I can blow up)
4. Drinking(Not to a point were I'm wasted just calm)

Right Now I would kill to drink(I've never drank before, not counting half a wine cooler) the thing is I'm 16...
First of How bad would it be if I drank alcohol?
Second, Sense I can't get a hold of it, Whats a better way for me to forget everything?
Even if its just for a little bit.

I'm sorry you are feeling down. Feeling low is no fun and we all want those feelings to go away as soon as possible.

Anger can only be controlled by yourself, the person or situation that causes that reaction has no control over you until you give it power, or let it control you.

If you try and drowned your sorrows in a bottle, through a cigarette, or other unhealthy forms it very well could help numb you for the time being but it won't resolve the anger/hurt feelings and it will be there as soon as the buzz wears off and you'll likely feel worse than before.

I would suggest getting the feelings out the way you are most comfortable with.

*Talking it out helps, if you don't want to share it with somebody I've found my pets keep my secrets well.

*Hitting a pillow or another object. I focus on the problem while I hit the pillow and it's unbelievable how good that one works. You can get a stick and just hit a tree, as long as you don't hurt yourself or someone's belongings this can be a great way to feel better fast.

*My favorite is go to the person that has upset me if it does any good. Telling someone that something has bothered you shouldn't offend them if done in a polite way. If you can't go to that person just writing a letter to them & tossing it later is great therapy.

*The best way to get rid of bad feelings is to forgive the person that did it to you. They may not deserve to be forgiven, but you don't deserve to have a heavy load or a broken heart either. I stress you do this for yourself, not for the other person. You may not speak to that person again, but atleast it's not loading you down.

I wish you the best and I can guarentee these methods will make things easier on you. Feel better soon!

my mom died of alcoholism, and she started drinking for the same reason you are considering. drinking is an easy way to forget about things for a night. if you really want to get things off your shoulders find some way to channel your emotions (writing, reading, running, some craft, scrapbooking, etc)

please don't turn to alcohol to solve your problems, ultimately, it will cause more problems for you than you started with.
stay strong, the temptations of alcohol can be strong but if you can hold your ground for the time being, you won't regret it in the end.

Try some physical activity... Yes, surprisingly enough it does help relax you...

Good luck & Don't start drinking... There are no answers in the bottem of an empty bottle only spit...

don't drink please. It's very unattractive and can lead to a very bad life. My solution is sitcoms. They cheer me up quick enough to get over anything. I love Scrubs, Two and a Half Men, and sometimes cartoons can help. Television was made to stimulate views of propaganda, so why don't you use shows to stimulate nerves...

Listening to music usually calms me. There's been a study that classical music synchronizes with your brain waves to calm them. Also, learn an instrument.

better than drinking - well, stillness is good. yes, that sounds silly, but it really works.

find a place that's quiet, maybe put on some soft soothing music and then..

1. you can cross your legs and sit with your spine straight but relaxed and fingers touching the floor. instead of all of the racing thoughts - try to focus on your senses - your breathing ("feel" it going in and out of your nose), the feel of the floor through your fingertips, the sound of the music...

still not enough?

2. trying laying down flat on your back. starting at your head, clench your jaw and scrunch your face for about 2 seconds and then let it totally relax. then hold your breath to contract your ribs and at the same time hold your arms rigid and make fists with your hands - and then let it all flop. do the same with your bum and thighs, and then your feet (by stretching your feet and splaying your toes and then letting go).

then do it all again but don't scrunch everything so hard.

if necessary, you can even do it a third time only this time just barely scrunch up.

by now your body should be feeling a bit more loosened up, and if you need more, you can just kind of listen to the music and try to imagine that one at a time (again, start with your head), that your body is getting really heavy and sinking into the floor.

by the time you do all of that, you should be feeling much better.

Oh I went through this stage not too long ago, I never did drink, you see I had a friend who wasted an entire year drinking her life away and she told me so many stories of things that she did or that happened to her when she got drunk and it made me never want to drink. I actually got a counselor and she helped me out alot she told me how proud she was of me for not drinking and just think of how proud you would be of yourself if you were to overcome this. So if you just get a counselor they help so much and sense your only 16 they have them at your school. Good luck sweetie, dont drink!

You are too young to drink Drinking makes you look stupid and do stupid things. Girls get raped when they are drunk. If you have to drink to be calm, you are on your way to becoming an alcoholic. Take up a sport like tennis or bowling. Run or jog. Go to a gym. Take a dance or art class. Learn karate. Learn how to play the piano or some other musical instrument. Get a hobby like scrapbooking or collecting things. Read a book.

Drinking will make it worse..you will depend on it to sleep and that is a bad habit. Try to talk to someone who will get what you are going through. maybe a school councelor or a buddy. Excercising or sports might help. sometimes life just hurts but this too will pass. Good luck! Julia

Take some melatonin. Take like 2-3mg and go to sleep. Your dreams should be generally positive and upbeat. You will wake up and be able to recall most of it as well. It's a good experience.

Also, melatonin is something your body naturally produces, look it up.

Don't drink. Try listening to some music. Nothing to fast or loud though. Maybe some Frank Sinatra or even Mozart if you can handle it. Then just sit back, close your eyes, and think of happy thoughts... or if happy thoughts aren't coming to mind that easily, think about nothing other than the notes of the music.

right now, i am a bit tipsy, had a drink or two. before i stared drinking i was in a little bit of a depressed mood. once i am done typing this i am most likely going to turn around and grab my razor, sit with it in my hand and decide if i actually want to cut myself again or not.

moral of my story, alcohol is a depressant, it makes you depressed. if you are in a great mood, it terns into a good mood, good to alright, alright to bad, bad to really shitty.

NEVER DRINK IF YOU ARE ALREADY DEPRESSED! the relaxing effect only works if you are in a good mood when you start drinking.

what i would suggest, find a happy, funny movie to watch. i usually go for disney movies that i haven't seen in year. they make me more happy then anything else!

but please, i am begging you. do not drink if you are already in a bad/depressed/shitty mood, it only makes it worse!

Sarah is spot on. you WILL end up with more problems than you started with. I know, it happened to me.
