I think I'm depressed. What should I do?!

Question: I had a baby a couple months ago. I don't think that's why I'm depressed. I think I've tended toward depression my whole life. I'm not suicidal or anything, just sad. Of course, there are days when I'm happy, but mostly not. I don't have a regular doctor, recently moved. The doctor who delivered my baby is kind of a ***** and I wouldn't go to her to tell her that I think I'm depressed. I also don't think I necessarily want to get on drugs... I'd rather do cognitive therapy or something, but don't know who to talk to. I'm miserable and I want things to get better but I don't know what to do. Help!

I would recommend seeing a therapist. I did it myself and it's really nice to talk to someone about how your feeling.
I would check the phone book for ones in your area, and always go for an "interview" first just to talk to the person. You aren't going to be comfortable talking to someone you don't like.
Also, I read the book Mind Over Mood: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think by Dennis Greenberger and Christine A. Padesky.
It helped a lot, and there is a lot of worksheets and exersises you can do on your own to help you through. It's all done through cognitive therapy.
Getting a referral from your family doctor is helpful so that the costs of the therapy can be covered by any benefits you or your family might have if that is the way you choose to go.

First off, don't do anything drastic. See a doctor, they have medications that easily help a chemical imbalance.

I think you should have one day to yourself, well if your really depressed i think you should try therapy but on the other hand you should go to a salon or something to make you feel good.

IF YA were relly depressed ur wudnt hav asked this question. my mum had depression a few years back n she was nothin like ur explainin she wudnt even speak
so get up oof ur *** n put up.

Go to any MD and tell them your situation, a lot of mothers have symptoms of depression after giving birth.

Go see a psychiatrist. Good luck.

Dear new-Daddy,

may u thought too much, life with a baby is so beautiful .There are so many people who want to get it but got a no. you are so lucky.

you should go outdoors for more breath and sunshine! best wishes for you.

well I think you just need to talk to your mom or one of you best friends or if you feel like you realy need to then go to soicial therapy and pease don't do drugs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

i have been through what you are now going through. I have Three but it wasnt till my last son ten years ago that I realized what was actually wrong. dont play with the idea that you might be.... Go to a therepist right away. I did play with that fact and and overdosed on pills. dont let people say its because of the baby. if you do research you will find out that you mght have been depressed and not even realized it but it usually comes out in your 30's and for some earlier.
I have been treated for 10 years and believe me its not easy finding the right meds i am still on a rollorcoaster ride but everyone is different. my case goes alot further than just depression. PTSD came out on me and i have panic disorder also.
so what i am basically saying is dont blame it on the birth get some help. one way or the other it will be worth it.

If you want to start with seeing a doctor without getting put on a prescription...then go and see a psychologist...they aren't allowed to prescribe medications..
Only a psychiatrist can do this...and the psychologist may be the only thing you need...
Keep in mind though...you did have a baby not too long ago and you may, and I say MAY, have postpartum depression...it's very common and it is curable...
You are on your way to recovery already whether or not you know it....you recognize that you have something going on and it's not right and you want to do something about it...
Good for you...smart girl...
Try the psychologist or just a regular therapist/counselor...see how that goes...if you need further treatment, THEN go see the psychiatrist.

Talk to your pediatrician and see if s/he can recommend a therapist and/or a doctor for you. That's a good starting place. If not there, you can always look in the phone book for Licenced Marriage and Family Counselors and call around for someone who does cognitive behavioral therapy. If you have a little more money, you can seek out a psychologist. An important interview question is the therapist's attitude on meds. If s/he is very opposed, I'd say move on. One who is okay with meds, will not recommend them unless s/he really believes they'd be beneficial.

Consult your friends, family and your doctor too, there is no harm in getting advice..

Try yoga or any other meditation technique, it may help. Maybe you have to stay alone for too long. Analyse yoourself, remove the factors which depress you..

Talk to your closest friend at least

Hope it helps
