Please, please help me! I see the color of music in my mind's eye -- what!

Question: All my life I have seen the color of music in my mind's eye. It's hard to explain, but when I listen to music, I see all this color. I also see the colors of letters, words, and numbers. And occasionally, I see the color of certain foods or smells (always in my mind's eye).

I always thought I was normal, but during a conversation with my friends today, I discovered that none of them are like me. I spoke to my siblings about it, but neither if them new what I was talking about and said I was really weird. And then when I thought about it, I realised I'd never heard of anyone "seeing color" like I do.

Please help me; I'm so frightened that I might have something really wrong with me! Why do I see all this color? I'm so scared and keep crying. Please help.

this sounds like you have synaesthesia. there's nothing really "wrong" with you, you just seem to percieve things differently. here's the wikipedia page on it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia

i hope i helped.

Thats perfectly normal, i think it's the imaginative that do that. When i hear a sound thats cold and dark i see blue in my mind etc when i smell grass i see green, it's perfectly normal, and you should embrace it, it probably means your more creative than most! :) enjoy it!

You have a rare gift called synaesthesia. Treasure it.

This is reocgnized condition & has been featured on 20/20 or 60 Minutes. I'm not sure of the name, but you could track that down.. One site is http://www.mayoclinic.com
You can search for your syndrome there. its fascinating to those of us who don't experience things the same way..
