Is it normal for a bipolar to stay in his room for days playing Playstation 3?!

Question: Is there anything I can do? He still refuses to take his meds?

"Steal" the play station. Trash compactors do away well with useless electronic devices.

Give him a job, a purpose, something he has to get done. Yeah, he is what- 22? 23? But if he is living under your roof and failing to take responsibility for his own well-being, you've got to bear down on him and light a fire up his ***. He won't like it, but he's got to grow up.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!

talk to his psychiatrist not random people on the internet.

at least he's not causing problems. slip his meds to him in his meals lol

I suggest you take him to a psychiatrist...Bipolars can be quite dangerous when you don't pay attention to them.. (dangerous to themselves and others). He has to take his meds or else its gonna get worst. It's pretty normal for a bipolar to spend time alone...be it with their books, computers, playstation or what have you...just not with normal people.

As long as he is eating/drinking you just need to let the episode pass. As soon as he stops eating/drinking you need to step in and bring him to the hospital to get fluids (yes against his will, police can help you).

Hm, well, in bipolar there is a lot of room for 'is it normal,' as bipolar people experience such a range of emotions and activities under that heading (including the worst, I think -- mixed stages).

I suppose it could be normal, if its based off what he's feeling, or it may be another problem.

However, he really should be taking his meds, and seeing not only a psychiatrist but also a psychologist, for sure. If he doesn't think he has it though, perhaps trying to get someone to talk with him about how he feels might be good too.

Good luck!

that's normal for everyone

Is it normal to not take medication when bipolar and lock yourself up in your room? No, it is not normal. You should probably do something.

tell him that he needs the help and medication is there to help him, that is the only way you are going to feel better, and you have to accept the fact that you need help

it is NOT normal.
games can be addictive.

Get help before something bad happens

DO IT NOW

Hi Jackie:

Yup this can be quite normal...being bipolar they seem to have their up and down cycles.

I work at a retirement home with seniors...I have one little man who has definitely been diagnosed as bi polar...it used to be his up/down periods were kinda the same...and we respected that...When he was down and refusing his meds..we would put them in pudding...he had a major sweet tooth...lol

It seemed lately his down periods were longer...and no matter how his meds were adjusted it didn't make things better...gets to that stage sometimes

He recently had to go to a nursing home(with more staff) he became suicidal and we just aren't staffed appropriately to cope with this

I miss him...he was a great man...used to be a college professor...very intelligent...either way up or down he was great to be around...but when he was down he was really down and nothing we could do to change that..so sad really his daughter is the same as him and she is much younger..she has lost out on so much...never got married...no children...He couldn't help her and her mother committed suicide...very very sad situation

Coping with a bipolar person on your own can be difficult...look after you too...don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it

I will send good thoughts your way and wish you well but if you need help don't be afraid to ask...

Take care
