What goes on in the brains of people suffering from depression?!

Question: I'm asking to see if you know what goes on in my head

Answers: I'm asking to see if you know what goes on in my head

I have chronic depression for most of my life.
This is what went/goes on in my head.
Maybe it will ring a bell.
I can do a lot of over generalizing.
I can have this all or nothing way of thinking (black and white).
I do have that stinking negative thinking, those old tapes that keep replaying in my head.
Hopelessness is a very familiar feeling.
Suicidal thinking and behavior have happened to me.
Self harming has been a part of my life.
Finding it very easy to cry at times.
When the depression was severe I had no reason to get out of bed or take care of myself.
Does this ring a bell?
Believe me, I hope NOT!!!

you dont care aobut the things u used to care about because it wont help ur depression ("change anything")?

It is a disease like any other disease effects an organ in your body. This disease effects your brain. It makes it so your brain can not absorb certain chemicals that allow you to be happy. It isn't something you can control with how you think, it requires medication and counseling.

there can be many things. you have to write down and keepa log of how yopur brain is changing thoughts and its changes

~I know from personal experience that it can be difficult to overcome depression. I was diagnosed with a slight case of bi-polar disorder, which I am now able to manage without medication. I was diagnosed as a teenager, and I truly believe that for me it had a lot to do with all those crazy hormones doing a number on the teenage brain. I also had problems not dwelling on little things that were not such a Drama for most people. I am now able to take most things in stride and consider myself to be more tolerant and easy-going. There can also be issues of low self esteem and feeling like you're worthless.
~But everyone is different and my experience was surely different from yours, at least in some ways.
~I don't think we can truly know what goes on inside your head as there can be different reasons for depression.
Including different diagnosies for chemical imbalances one of which can be bi-polar disorder, which in and of itself has differing degrees of severity

Depression, is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain. The chemicals in the brain that are responsible or happiness and feelings of well being are not being produced in the same quantities that they used be which causes you to be depressed.
So in order to get the most help as possible you really have to consider both medication and therapy together.Studies have shown that this approach is the best for over all results.
