Answers: Wht do u think emo if

Emo (pronounced /?i?mo?/) is a style of rock music which describes several independent variations of music with common stylistic roots. As such, use of the term has been the subject of much debate. In the mid-1980s, the term emo described a subgenre of hardcore punk which originated in the Washington, D.C. music scene. In later years, the term emocore, short for "emotional hardcore", was also used to describe the emotional performances of bands in the Washington, D.C. scene and some of the offshoot regional scenes such as Rites of Spring, Embrace, One Last Wish, Beefeater, Gray Matter, Fire Party, and later, Moss Icon. (In more recent years, the term "emotive hardcore" entered the lexicon to describe the period.)

Starting in the mid-1990s, the term emo began to refer to the indie scene that followed the influences of Fugazi, which itself was an offshoot of the first wave of emo. Bands including Sunny Day Real Estate and Texas Is the Reason had a more indie rock style of emo, more melodic and less chaotic. The so-called "indie emo" scene survived until the late 1990s, as many of the bands either disbanded or shifted to mainstream styles. As the remaining indie emo bands entered the mainstream, newer bands began to emulate the mainstream style. As a result, the term "emo" became a vaguely defined identifier rather than a specific genre of music.

someone who loves black/punck syle...i guess

if u mean what are emo's

they are ppl that self harm themselves (such as cutting themselves)

and they listen to a type of music that is very depressing and in the lyrics they talk about there problems

it is also a shortcut to the word 'emotional'...lol

Emo people are emotionally depressed. They share a lot of the same view points as goths do, but emos tend to think more violently and depressing. Emo originally started as a type of music though, and people modeled themselves against the music, felt what the songs were stating, and gave themselves a new category to file themselves as.

from what most of my sources say its just the short way of sayin "emotional hard-core" though im not sure about the hard core bit.
most emos that you find seem to be depressed about one thing or another although most of them seem to be depressed for no apparent reason. they seem to create reasons, often saying "life is so unfair" or "the planet/people are so &%$# up."
they have a certain fashion that states to wear alot of black, heavy make up, unusual haircuts and bad dye jobs, much akin to the gothic sub-culture except the goths at least have a sense of style.
an interesting thought about their fashion concerns that many of them state that it displays them as "non-conformist". their ideas of conformity is just basically everyone who doesnt dress like them... and in order to be an emo you have to dress exactly like them. the only definition for this kind of behavior is conformity...can you spell hypocracy? i can.

also notable among emos is many of the more tenacious and dedicated ones have a habit of slashing their own wrists in a non-fatal way. im still researching into why. their choice of music is also quite different. emos have their own brand of rock which contains some rather depressing lyrics and monotimous tunes. study from affar.

all in all... unusual.

emo is short 4 emotional .emos cut them self and and there are wanna be emos were they say cut them self and dess all black u dnt have to dress all black to be emo emo is like a mixture of goth and punk.

Emo started in the 80's in DC with bands like Fugazi, Rites of Spring, etc.. It was a type of hardcore that was more emotional. It basically sounds like hard rock

When most people talk about emo though they're talking about metalcore bands such as Shadows Fall and Atreyu. The people that are called "emo" are usually scene queens and scene kids... They wear tight pants, eyeliner, and listen to metal core. Most of them cut themselves
