My doctor described it to me (I'm border line) as going between "clinical depression" where you are depressed for no reason, are tired... and "dancing on the door step" happy.
There are times when it doesn't matter how much sleep I get I am always tired and I don't want to do anything and just basically feel like poopey.
Then there are other times, one week I can remember in particular where I got between 2-4 hours of sleep per night, and was perfectly awake and happy and disgustingly cheerful.

Hope this helped!

It used to be called manic-depressive.

It is someone who has extremes from feeling very "high" one minute, to being extremely depressed or angry.

It means that one second u can be all nice and stuff then another second later ur blowing up and pissed at every1

You'll be happy one second and mad the next.

It's a catch-all diagnosis that psychologists use to give people permission to act badly.

It's a mental illness where sufferers experience extreme shifts in emotion from being either extremely depressed to being extremely hyper and active. It's also called manic depressive which I think describes the disease better. Two extremes in mood.

What Are the Symptoms?
The primary symptoms of bipolar disorder are dramatic and unpredictable mood swings. The illness has two strongly contrasting phases.

In the manic phase:

Euphoria or irritability
Excessive talk; racing thoughts
Inflated self-esteem
Unusual energy; less need for sleep
Impulsiveness, a reckless pursuit of gratification -- shopping sprees, impetuous travel, more and sometimes promiscuous sex, high-risk business investments, fast driving
Hallucinations and or delusions (in cases of bipolar disorder with psychotic features)
In the depressive phase:

Depressed mood and low self-esteem
Low energy levels and apathy
Sadness, loneliness, helplessness, guilt
Slow speech, fatigue, and poor coordination
Insomnia or oversleeping
Suicidal thoughts and feelings
Poor concentration
Lack of interest or pleasure in usual activities

if you are expierencing any of this you want to contact your doctor.

Bipolar disorder is a chemical imbalance in the brain that causes mood swings. The person will be fine one second that suddenly extremely angry then completely depressed. Kind of a confusing disorder
