Do you have to be attention seeking to suffer from ADD/ADHD?!

Question: Lately I've been having trouble with hyperactivity, no I'm not six and no I'm not eating too many E numbers. I've been told I have a short attention span, personally I think its due to the ponderous and repeatitive topics at school, but others beg to differ. I also suffer from an incurable twitch in the legs and the spontaneous reaction to pound the desk. Which doesn't seem too lethal unless your a piece of furniture or my desk buddy. And it's not that I think suffering from ADHD is the worst form of 'mental condition', it's just that I don't think sufferers should be seen as ME ME ME. Do you have to be narcissistic to suffer from it? Not that I have been diagnosed yet, just out of curiousity. Oh and this teacher has also informed my parents I may be partially Obsessive Compulsive. Pff Jackass..

Hey whats up man, I just got diagnosed with ADD myself. I thought it was really weird too, since I definitely did not see myself as someone who should have ADD. I just kept making up excuses for my lack of attention (like the classes in school are boring or its because I haven't been trying). What I didn't know, is that there are two different forms of ADD. There is the bouncing off the walls 6-year-old kind, and there is the I just can't concentrate kind.

I used to twitch too, and had always excepted it as part of who I am. But, it turns out this is actually a symptom of ADD. Who knew? My advice to you is to go to a doctor, and he will refer you to a special ADD doctor.

This is what I did and walked in to the first meeting feeling like a complete idiot. However, after I learned the facts, I got really excited, because the benefits the medicine can offer you are amazing. I watched my grades raise, and the school day feel shorter. I became much more outgoing, because the medicine helps your brain work more effectively, allowing conversations to be much smoother. Also, I could concentrate on boring and tedious things without being sidetracked, something I used to think was impossible.

So my friend, I have given you my advice and I wish you the best of luck. Let me know how it goes.

personally, i don't believe such a thing exists, but you don't have to be narcissistic to be diagnosed, just being hyper or having a short attention span will probably get them to prescribe you Ritalin for no reason at all, just because they don't wanna deal with a kid who actually has some animation to him/her, compared to the other "normal" zombie kids

yeah, i'm an uninformed idiot, he says?
i do all that same ****, have all the symptoms, and still i refuse to make excuses.

OCD sounds more like it, but of course all psych diagnoses are a pathetic attempt by medical doctors to put names on disorders of the psyche, which we know pitifully little about.
Medications are getting better for conditions though, and there may be a good one for you.
I find that upper cervical chiropractic has a very good effect on people with stress, and really helps them to mellow out a lot and control their moods. IT definitely helpls with ADHD, which you also may have.
Could you have mild Tourette's also?
Best luck.

Ppl w/ADD or ADHD have it from early childhood, so if serious hyperactivity and/or distractability haven't always been a problem, you don't have either. Neither have anything to do with attention seeking or narcissism, btw.

What you describe could be anything. If it's disrupting your life, see a psychiatrist for an evaluation. If it's not and it's not causing anyone harm, go on your merry way. I know mental illnesses are real, but also know that teachers aren't really qualified to diagnose anything even if they sometimes think they are.

i take meds for it, its not like a serious thing where you have to be diagnosed, i feel like i used to twitch my legs too and jump when someone touched my foot when i was sitting in class, if your grades are bad, and if you blank out during conversations or cant stay on task/topic, and your unorganized and do your work sloppy, and if it really is affecting you i would say find a doctor to see.adhd and add meds are the same, it is very affective and you will be able to see the change in 3 days, theirs many different kinds too, heres how they work, a person with attention defecate disorder has something lacking in the brain that allows them to focus, the medicine delivers what is missing, how long they work for varies with the medicine and how many miligrams you take depends on your severity

the idiot who says ADD/ADHD doesn't exist needs to open a damn book and read. it's so retarded when people say that because they can never even bother to look at the comparison between a normal kid and someone with ADHD.

you don't need to be attention sinking to have ADD/ADHD.
i have a pretty bad ADHD issue because my mania from bipolar disorder likes to combine with it....never been an attention seeker, i am a very independent 18 year old...and i've had ADHD for 11 years...even back then i was independent [guess cause i'm a middle child?]

ADHD is not a bad disorder...i mean yeah, it sucks hardcore come time for tests in school....but no, you don't need to be a narcissist to have it. i am not a narcissist neither is anyone else i know who has ADD/ADHD.

you sound like you have OCD not ADHD.
pounding the desk, twitching, attention seeking, pondering, etc. is not symptoms of ADHD.
you were completely on topic with your question...if you were ADHD...you wouldn't be able to do that without being on meds.

relax. you're just a kid who's hyper and likes to wander off in thoughts. just cause you're hyper and doesn't like to pay attention doesn't mean you have ADHD. it's a lot more than that to have ADHD.

so don't worry. you don't have ADHD. if you did have ADHD, you'd be diagnosed a long time ago because a person with ADHD develops their motor functions a lot earlier than someone without ADHD does. you'd have a very hard time sitting still and doing normal tasks if you had it...you'd get into trouble a lot too cause some other functions in your brain develops 3 years slower than a person without ADHD.

so relax. you don't have it.
totally block that outta your head.
you'd be a lot worse if you really had it...take that from
someone who's had it for 11 years...seriously.
even went off of meds for 3 damn years because i was an idiot in 7th grade.

just look up OCD. you really sound like you have that.

but...let me clear up the twitch thing....someone who has ADHD likes to fidget, rather than they twitch,.. i shake my leg everytime i'm trying to do something like type or do homework
