I self-injured for 15 years. I haven't injured for 8 years b/c I got treatment.

First of all, not all self-injurers are "emo". People have been self-injuring for thousands of years, before emo was even a concept.

Second of all, not all self-injurers eventually become suicidal or have suicidal ideations. Some do, but that's actually a minority.

She needs to be in therapy to learn how to express her emotions. Self-injurers take their emotions out on their bodies b/c they either don't know how to express (in words) how they feel, or they don't think they have anyone with whom they can talk/trust. They might also think if they talk about their problems, no one really wants to hear about them.

There's an excellent book on self-injury called Bodily Harm by Karen Contrerio and Wendy Lader. I attended their inpatient program and that's how I overcame my addiction to self-injury.

You're a good friend to want to help your friend.

Your friend probably has some mental health issues. I would tell her that you are concerned about the way she deals with things that upset her. Tell her you want to help her come up with a healthier way to deal with her pain.

she should go to therapy.

ew people who r emo need help. I mean not in a bad way; just to make them happier and y do they HAVE to cut themselves? Do they think seeing blood is fun for them bbecause its not

HELP HER THINK OF SOME OTHER WAYS TO LET OUT ALL THE STRESS! LIKE BEATING THE HECK OUT OF A PILLOW WITH A BAT OR SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF HER LUNGS TAKE HER SOMEPLACE PRIVATE OUT SIDE AND SCREAM WITH HER! GOOD-LUCK AND GOD BLESS! YOU ARE A GOOD FRIEND!

self harm is not normal, and means she has deeper psychiatric issues that can easily be addressed....
She needs professional help.......self harm can lead to suicidal ideation if not treated.
