next step sounds like it needs to be depression counseling.

Your drinking may have been a way of self-medicating for depression that already existed.

I have a diagnosis of Major Depression. My counselor believes that the onset was puberty. I am now 35 years old.

I have at times used many unhealthy coping techniques to deal with the depression before it was officially diagnosed (only 8 years ago!)

alcohol was an issue for me for awhile.

Don't give up. Continue to get help...it does get better!

Congrats on 5 years!!!

and your question is

I admire you for staying sober for five years.

If you are feeling like you can't take much more please call this number #1-800-273-8255. It is a suicide talk hotline. You are not alone.

Please talk to someone!

congrats on the 5 years!

I really dont know how to answer this, seeing as I dont understand the question.... but I would reccomend you read "A Million Little Peices" by James Frey. Here is a link to the ebay page for the book (pretty cheap!):

http://catalog.ebay.com/A-Million-Little...

please read that book, it gave so many people courage, and his story is like yours (only a lot more severe).

also, please stay strong. you are in my prayers.

Stay strong man, stop thinking so much, learn to be quiet. You overcomed the first step, sobriety, putting chemicals into your body just open the doors to entities who make you feel sick and worse. Sober is great man. If life still sucks, look for uplifting and consciouss raising activities. Get your feet and hands dirty, spend lots of time in the sun it WILL help. Grow a garden. Go into nature and it will keep you young and happy. guaranteed.

i think besides alcholism you have depression and maybe you have bipolarness or something i mean i wish i was dead im bulimic and always wish everytime i purge i can have a heart attack i guess you have to do something too get your mind off thing like maybe a hobby or maybe your missing something in life like a puppy or child but before that you should see if you have a mental disorder excersize can always be a natural help over feeling sad sometimes

Look at you. Sober...for five years. Five very long, hard years, I can imagine. There must've been so many temptations, so many moments where you just wanted to give up and go out and get f*cked-up.

But, you didn't. You kept going. You must be a very strong human-being to have done that.

Find a NEW coping mechanism; sign up for therapy, get puppy [or other animal], join a group to talk about all the sh*t that's been going on with you.

Congradulations on five years of sobriety, by the way.

First, congratulations on your sobriety. Now the work begins. You still have the same issues and an inability to deal with them but no longer numb them with alcohol. Seek help, and be well. Clearly you are a strong person, or you wouldn't have reached such a milestone. Take care of you so that you can actually enjoy the life you have worked so hard to have, please.

i feel the same way. life was much more interesting on drugs.

you need to stop feeling sorry for yourself, YOU are the one keeping yourself DOWN! think positive thoughts, be happy, probably the reason you feel like life still sucks is because you are negative, people DO not want to be around negative people.......
