Omega 3, can it bring on panic/anxiety attacks in a 10 year old?!

Question: Granddaughter has failed in her tests this school year so we have given her Omega 3, but after a month has started anxiety symptoms. Is this the reason or something else?

all research done in the matter indicate, that the d/0 hase nothing at all to do with nutrition, balances if such and/or vitamins, this is a load of crap.
neuroscience has shown, that there is a genetic predisposition in people with a/d/o and that in animal models the amygdala and the autonomous nervous system are involved. this can be clearly demonstrated.
there is sufficient evidence of an unconcious memory for
triggers regards anxiety and panic d/o, - and the fear response is subserved by he amygdala without any reference to the concious mind; also it is striking, that these findings ar completely consonant with psychodynamic theries of anxiety, reaching bach to kohut and prof freud even!

surely, groweing up with anxious and overprotecting parents is going to be unlikely to help the situation, even if a predisposition is not present.

an early intervention through school psychologists, head teachers and councillors is always indicated, as the progression of the d/o is fast and later often irreversible.

there is a strong co-morbidity with almost all major psychiatric d/o, mainly depression and sometimes schizophrenia!!

I hope, this has helped.

A lot depends upon how much omega 3 and what other dietary imbalances she might have. Given the school failure, the reason for the anxiety is most likely something else.

A well-balanced nutritional program is the foundation for building a healthy body and mind.

I have found a family of nutritional products that I know gives me and our children the best chance for longevity and health. Email me if you would like particulars.

Living a long and healthy life.

oh, i don't think so.
may, omega 3 not well!

I wouldn't think so, omega 3 is found naturally in fish. Unless she has anxiety attacks after eating fish?

Who said to give omega 3? It helps control cholesterol and relieve arthritis pain, not help with memory problems.

I think it is very likely to be something else. Those tests that the kids do are very stressful for them. To give you an example, when my son had his maths one at 8 and 11, he couldn't sleep the night before the exam and was quite emotional. The day after, he was back to normal and did very well in the test results, so really, had nothing to worry about. My kids did eat quite a lot of fish anyway, as my first husband used to catch salmon and so we got it for nothing. My father was a fishmonger, so I was able to remove the bones, so it was safe for them to eat. I would make sure that your grandchild also doesn't eat a lot of sweets as the sugar rush, can cause anxiety and hyper behaviour.

Omega 3 has had some major clinical trials involving children over the last few years. It has been reported to improve symptoms of ADHD and improve concentration and attention span. I have not heard of it causing panic attacks or anxiety, but check the information leaflet that came with the capsules to be sure it's not one of the very rare side effects.

With the Omega you must have a balance of the EPA and the DHA slightly higher with the EPA I use 180mg EPA to 120 mg DHA. I would also advise you give her a vitamin B complex with B1,B2, B3 B5, B6,B12, most have vitamin C as well. I do not think even a bad balance of Omega 3 would bring on the attack of panic/ anxiety. I would say there is some thing else happening either at school or somewhere else. just note when the attacks happen IE. before school or before a certain lesson. the vitamin B complex can help with stress. but you first have to find what is causing the problem, before this develops further. have a talk with the school psychologist, that is why they are there . You may have to go through the Head teacher to visit the psychologist, But with a good head teacher they are some times better than the psyc. with all the training. some have done, talk first with the Head before involving the child or parents and see. then bring in the parents then the child. The Head will know the best way!

She might be allergic to it. I had a friend who couldn't take it. Have you googled for the side effects? Here they are...

I'v been taking omega 3' fish oils for a couple of years now and they make me feel a lot more relaxed, I'v never heard of anyone having any adverse reaction to them, sounds like it could well be some kind of allergy like has been mentioned, but I doubt very much if it is them, u never know though, could even be the capsule they come in for example.

May be the attacks are a result of feeling of stress. Maybe you should expect less from her and give her more space without letting her feel the need to perform.

Maybe she failed because of some other issues at school. Maybe she is very sensitive. Talk to her teacher and see her friends.
