I have an immense phobia of water?!

Question: Hey there, so since i was a little girl, i've had this fear of water, it's not like drinking water, it's like swimming in it, and being near it, that kind of thing, i live on a lake, so we go boating a lot, and i'm dead terrified, i'll go on the boat, but i have to be wearing a life vest, and i make the driver drive slow, i will refuse to swim in it, i have this like mental thing like i'm going to drown, if i do have to go into water, i MUST be wearing a life vest, and my feet HAVE to be touching teh floor of the pool, i hate water slides, that kind of thing, but it's gotten to a point, where i won't even go near any big things of water, i'm dead terrified of it. how do i over come this fear? i really need to get over it.

Some swim instructors will do adult swim lessons, but very few. My brother coached an adult with water phobia, which was recommended by the person's psychiatrist. I suggest you find an instructor or a group of good friends to help you out. Get in the water and slowly overcome your phobia. Swim in the deep end with a life vest, stand in the shallow end without it. Then, venture out into the deep end without it; but make sure you know how to swim adequately enough before doing so.

you have to take control-just ignore all your fears and jump into the water. it will cure it! did for my friend at least. MAKE SURE U HAVE A FEW PEOPLE WITH YOU THOUGH!! NOT BY YOURSELF! good luck=]

i used to be thart way...i almost drowned as a baby...not sure if anything ever happen to you though.go take swimming lessons or a hyponitise and see if it will help.

Get in the water and get over this fear before its too late. you are not irrational now because you will go into the boat. But pretty soon your gonna be crazy over this water thing.. Get over this problem THIS SUMMER.. For your own good.

first try going into a bathtub filled with water and just play with the water then try going into a pool with someone beside you. then you will get use to it and fear no more.

i really hope that helps :)
