Are psychiatrists actually doctors?!

Question: How come shrinks don't know anything about the real medical field?

All they do is prescribe pills like candy, and they don't even know when a side effect is causing health problems. They just prescribe more pills to cover up the physical symptoms of other health problems.

I've had problems like that too, and if I try to tell about side effects, they act like i'm 'making things up and up the dose. then it gets worse instead of better or it makes me gain. I used to take anti-depressants and stopped because they caused me to have 'weight gain' and I'm trying to lose weight, not gain it.

psychiatrists are real doctors. they're MD's. that's why they can prescribe meds & therapists can't. i haven't experienced what you're describing. the shrinks i've been to have asked how i'm feeling on the meds, etc...and ask me questions, and based on how i answer, they either tweak my meds or keep them the same.
any shrink that's just interested in handing out meds like candy & doesn't care how his or her patients are doing, should be fired & you should seek care from another shrink.

Yes they are mds doctors because they has a degree in medicine. The ones I have delt with have know when it was a drug giving the side affects. Sometimes a doc probably thinks the benifits outway the side affects. I dont. Most of them do prescribe pills like candy too (why is that, whats the point of being a mental health professional) I finally ran into one that didn't do that. it took her awhile to break down and give me something that was imediate relief and addiction risky. ANd no I am not addicted to that med.d

However Psychologists (notice the difference) and therapists will use other methods rather than trying to hook you up with an Rx.

Well they make you feel better right?

I think they give pills because there is to many depressed people these day's and they just can not handle all of them. pills, Easy!...Yup.

Psychiatry is one of the branches of medicine.
If it was not there, think of yourself. :)

Yes, they actually are. And, I can identify with what you are saying since I go to one. He himself has ADHD with the big initial being H. I get tired just watching him buzz around the office. And a lot of times I have serious doubts if he really knows the side effects some of the meds really are and poo poo's them off on something else like, "being in my head"

Yes they are medical doctors with mental health as their specialty. I think that they get so caught up in the deviant mind that they forget about the medical part of their training and they don't work wi it every day, all day like an e-room doc.
