Medication for depression??!


Question: Is there anyway to stop depression naturally or do i need to get medication.
i really dont want medication.
are there any things that i can go?
the only thing i do is read or write. if i listen to music, i'll just cry for a good 2 hours at the least. is there anything else i can do?
or is medication the only option?

It's really hard to make that call without knowing all about you. However I do sympathize with your desire to stay off meds. Probably the best thing you can try, to see if it helps, is to get your mind off yourself. Somehow you have to engage yourself....get involved in some activity. It can be answering questions of Yahoo Answers, reading or writing like you said, doing volunteer work (which by the way, can be FUN if you pick something you like, for instance walking dogs at the Humane Society or ushering for performances and you get to stay and watch them), helping someone out, getting involved in something fun afterschool if you're in school, mentoring, baking, singing (which supposedly boosts endorphins which are chemicals in your brain and will help you stay happier), exercise, etc. etc. Sometimes we go through phases that depress us, but they pass. I don't know if this is a long standing problem of yours or not. Sometimes there is inner work that we must do, like figuring out what is depressing you and working on that issue. A counselor can help with that. Sometimes making some changes of whatever type is helpful. Try try try to make yourself do something other than that which lets you stay depressed...sometimes we have to make ourselves rejoin life even though we don't want to. Also make sure you are eating enough food and the right kinds of foods (nutritional) because that can have a big impact on mood, along with checking to see if there is anything that is making you anxious. Anxiety can get pretty bad and again, some changes may be in order depending on your situation. If writing helps you, you may want to launch a big writng project...a book perhaps? that might excite you. Anyway I send you my best and hope that this all works out well for you.

Medication in there with therapy

It`s important to know if you're middle age and if you're in that case, then don`t worry too much because to certain point is normal to suffer this emotional imbalance.
You have to go to a Dr, I do it every weak with my shrink and I'm 46...and it really helps..
Prozac is the name of a medication but first you need to go to the Dr..

I understand how you wouldn't want to take meds, but I've been on most of them at one time or another. They don't make you high or artifically happy and they don't make you unfocused and goofy. If you were diabetic instead of depressed, would you feel the same about taking meds for that? There is no difference in principle. Talk to a counselor or therapist, that may be all you need. But let a professional help you decide what treatment to use to help you with your depression.

Natural depression remedies like St Johns Wort are used, I find the meds really good tho, and they are not as bad as everyone thinks. Maybe u could go on th enatural ones, then try the anti-depressants for a while. U might b just going thru a bad time. U wouldnt need the meds forever. Therapy is really great to find out what is making u sad. There is another natural one, I think its called 5HTP. Dont know much about it. Google it to get more info

Well St. Johns Wort is a Mood enhancer. If that is what you are asking about.
