Withdrawal symptoms from video games ever go away?!

Question: Hello,

My PS3 has broke so I have to send it in, and it will take 2 weeks or more to get it replaced, and I have been addicted to it for a while now. I never gone more than a day without playing. Now that it is gone for this extended period of time I am forced not to play. It has only been 2 days, and I am already feeling depressed and want to kill myself. I know this is not normal, but do these feelings ever go away? I wanted to quit video games because I knew it was a problem, but now I really think it isn't worth it with all these feelings I am feeling. If it goes away I can see it as worth it. Does it ever go away or should I just go back to playing 8 hrs. a day? Serious answers only please. Please no teenagers coming on here to tell me to get a life. This doesn't help anything.

I think this is the perfect time in your life to try and get out and find a new hobby. I used to be an avid gamer, playing about 8 to 10 hours a day, non-stop, but then I got involved in other hobbies, especially outdoor activities, I golf, clay target shoot, fish, hike and ride motorcycles. If you would try to really search for another activity to engross yourself in, it will make you a better person, maybe even get you some exercise and you won't miss not playing so much. Now I usually play 1 to 3 hours a week, I still love it, but it doesn't consume my whole life.

well there are many game addicts specially with PS3 out now... u feel the way u do because u ahve nothing to fill in the time slot u had video games with... i suggest find another job... hell even look around at the video game store u use the most and apply... not only will you have fun BUT you will be making the money also... and it will help ware you out some so ull be less likely to play games 24/7... even if its a part time job( if u happen to have a full time or another part time job) you want the feelings to stop... go out and do things... if u dont then u will continue to feel so depressed because you have nothing to do ...

Slowly whittle down the time you play with it once you get it back. It helps if you get a family member or friend to help time you, to make sure you stick to the plan that you've made. Eventually, once you only play it only one to two hours a day, stick with that limit for a few weeks. Once that's done, when you think you can handle it, play as much as you want to, as long as you monitor yourself to keep from becoming addicted again.

Addiction to video games is very rare, but it can seriously interfere with someone's life, wellbeing, and emotions if it gets out of hand. It'll never go away unless you take action to keep it from controlling your life more than you do. Congratulations for recognizing that you have a problem that needs to be taken care of, and the best of luck!
