Has anybody ever switched from Paxil to Lexapro?!

Question: I've been taking Paxil for 13 years and it's therapeudic, but I've gained tons of weight. I tried switching to Wellbutrin once but I was very anxious because I had that feeling "Am I feeling ok? Am I different? Is this working?" I was just reading about Lexapro and how it sometimes helps with compulsive eating. It's an SSRI, like Paxil and I feel pretty sure it would be equally as therapeudic, but I'm concerned about the transitional period.
Have you been on Paxil and switched to Lexapro and at what rate did you do it?

Lexapro was the ONLY reason I was able to get off the demon drug Paxil without debilitating side effects.. I had tried to wean myself off Paxil before but the side effects were horrible. Finally my doc had me slowly reduce the dosage until I was taking 5mg a day. That is when he started ramping me up on Lexapro... Much easier transition! We should have done it at 10mg!

I haven't noticed (for me personally) any difference in eating habits while on Lexapro vs Paxil...

Does seem like there wasn't as much of a flattening effect on Lexapro as compared to Paxil...

But the big difference is I haven't experience the zaps since being on Lexapro... Not one experience of the zaps that I had to endure while on Paxil...

Paxil really made me feel "weird" and it was a relief when I finally got it all out of my system...

Good luck on finding a med that works for you.

I havent ever been on paxil but ive taken lexapro and it was the worst ssri i ever tried. it made me so jittery and anxious all the time. i had sweaty palms, i always felt like complete crap, the whole side effect period never went away and this happened 2 different times i tried taking it.

also, my mother recently tried taking it and experienced the same problem. and she had this terrible insomnia where she didnt sleep hardly (maybe 3 hours) for 3 days!! it was aweful.

all three are wonderful medications, follow your doctors advice.

i switched from paxil to lexapro. lexapro is probably the best with side effects so you should have a better luck with your weight problem with that drug. since u've been taking paxil so long it make take a month or so till u feel really normal again.
