  • If your mind is always racing, a bunch of different thoughts racing through your head at once and you have loads of energy, you have ADHD. If you feel like you have a voice inside your head or split personalities, then you are bipolar.

    ADHD is not a real disease in my book. Yeah, I know that will get me a lot of thumbs down, but it's true. ADHD is a combination of poor parenting & poor diet.

    Bipolar can be caused by those things too, but is more severe and can actually be a hormonal chemical imbalance. Bipolar typically first appears in people in their late teens or early 20's.

    I will say that even the doctors acknowledge that the major things that trigger bipolar are things like stress, medication (like the drugs they give kids for ADHD), drug abuse and major life changes (such as divorce). Obviously those are all things that can be prevented or dealt with properly when they happen, but when there's millions to be made in treating it, people of my opinion get shut down quickly.

    ADHD, like Restless Leg Syndrome or any of those other diseases you never heard of until 10 years ago because the pharmaceutical industry hadn't invented the term yet or started making billions off treating it, is just a term applied to some symptoms.

    The pharmaceutical industry is in the business of treating symptoms. They make BILLIONS of dollars every year doing it no matter what happens in the rest of the economy. In 2004, the top 10 pharmaceutical companies generated over 300 billion dollars in revenue. Currently, there are approximately 100,000 pharmaceutical sales reps in the United States pursuing some 120,000 pharmaceutical prescribers. The number doubled in the four years from 1999 to 2003. What does it tell you when they can afford an almost 1 to 1 ratio of sales reps to clients?

    What happens if the pharmaceutical industry actually fixed people's symptoms? They'd go broke because that person doesn't need to buy their drugs anymore. Thus, they treat symptoms, FOR LIFE. That's the primary reason we don't have cures for cancer, AIDS or any other major disease; there's simply too much money to be made off the long term treatment.

    In the past 10-20 years, it's also become profitable for the industry to create new so-called diseases; RLS, Acid Reflux Disease, irritable bowel syndrome and ADHD, to name just a few. Think about it, who doesn't occasionally have that feeling that your legs want to run around the room? Maybe you had one too many sodas today or that extra cup of coffee?

    Almost every symptom you feel can be explained by diet, exercise, stress and general mental health, and virtually all of those things can be controlled, not by a pill, but by YOU!

    To actually answer your question, some symptoms of ADHD include:

    * inability to pay attention to details
    * listening problems
    * difficulty following instructions
    * problems with organization
    * avoidance or dislike of tasks that require mental effort
    * tendency to lose things

    Symptoms of Bipolar are broken into 4 categories, which sometimes overlap and sometimes are opposites, and can include:

    * Feeling unusually
