Will this help Depression?!

Question: I think i'm going through depression & anxiety. Anxiety becaue i feel like crying when i'm around 2 many people. depressed because i've had suicidal thougts. can the music that you listen to and the way you dress be part of that? i listen to some heavy stuff and i dress in black from my black toe nails to the black rose on my head. I've decided to make a HUGE and HARD choice in my life. i think i'm going to try to no be as gothic. It's like a lifestyle. when i go to a store, the first place i go to is where i see black. I find black as beauty in my eyes. and my music too. but i think i'm going to change for the sake of my health. I really don't want to take medication for depression so will me changing the way i dress and see things stop my depression? is it a start? don't get me wrong, not all gothics are depressed, but i am. and black is morbid too. I'm not going pink. that will never happen. will this help?

I don't think dressing different will change anything because you associate black with beautiful, not depressed. I dress preppy and I'm depressed. But I think music makes a difference. Only listen to happy music. Throw all the depressing music out. I just started meds even though I have always thought meds were not the answer. But then I figured that I would take tylenol for a headache, why suffer through depression? So I just started seroquel but I don't feel any better yet... but it hasn't been long enough. I am just so tired of feeling like this, if meds can help me I am willing to take meds

Maybe change is always good no matter how small. You have to start somewhere this is good

I really don't see anything wrong with the way you dress and the music you listen to. If it makes you happy, and you love it, then it's good to stick with. Don't change who you are, especially if you truly don't feel it's right.

I suggest going to therapy. Talk to them, get some stuff off your chest, things like that. Medications may not be needed if therapy works well for you.

[I listen to heavy stuff too, and it really doesn't do anything to my depression! =D]

there are so many cute clothes out there and wearing them and knowing you look good can make you feel better. i love wearing red. as far as the music, there are a lot of popular rock, rap, hip hop, alt. rock that don't bring you down. your surroundings certainly can make a difference in your mood. surround yourself with some things that put you in a good mood. if you still love the goth look, just tone it down a touch. i do agree with you that it certainly could be a start and i think you are so wise to look inward to help yourself. but if you still do have anxiety and or depression, you really could have a chemical imbalance that needs to be addressed. i sure do think your new attitude cannot hurt at all and you just may be onto something. best of luck

First I think that you need to speak to a parent or close friend about the depression. Next how old are you? My niece went thru the goth thing when she was like 14.. It only lasted a year. Now she dresses normal. I think it is just A phase thar kids go thru. I am concerned that you are depressed. PLEASE TALK TO SOME ONE

Are you a Visigoth or an Ostrogoth?

resolving this depression goes beyond a simple "wardrobe change". I believe that colors do influence how we feel and think however. Whatever is going on in your life, the answer to all your life is found in Jesus Christ. I don't know if you are religious or pray much, but I hope that you do or start. Just ask Christ to reveal himself to you and to help you carry your cross. We all have "crosses" in our own lives that God gives us in order to draw us closer to him and "transform us" into holy people. He never gives us a "cross" that is too heavy to carry. God is infinite and eternal MERCY, love and desires to forgive you of all your sins and for you to be happy and find peace. Ask the Holy Spirit to inspire your prayer and just open your heart wide to Christ and let him in to heal and transform. Ask for the graces of being patient, to have greater faith and love for him, to help you carry your cross, etc. I hope you feel better soon, just trust in Christ! God bless!

Aries, they gave you seroquel for depression???? That is given to people who have rage disorders, seizures, Autism, and psychosis!! Not depression...

Anyway, onto the young goth lady. If you know you need to change to get happier then make the change without reservation. If your friends give you grief, just look at them and tell them you need to be happy and it makes you happy and to go hook themselves to a tombstone and shut up or play along nicely ;)

Yes, wearing all black all the time can make one depressed. I mean how boring is that? COlors are good for your psyche!!

:) Bright Blessings. ;)

Well Hun just because you feel Goth don't mean you always have to dress total Black Goth. You can mix in other colors like Romance Shirt, Handkerchief Blouse, Spider Web Top, or the Purple Brocaded Vest from this collection http://www.pyramidcollection.com/default... and add in some Garnet and Ruby reds, White, Royal purple. Think of it this way many Vampires are very gothic and I know several Goths but I never, for the most part, ever see them dress all in black. I myself am Norse Heathen which can be considered somewhat gothic but I never wear all black but still bring the goth through. It has more to do with a persons presents than the way they dress.
This man here: http://www.corvisnocturnum.com/frameset.... is very Gothic and I know him personally I have not ever seen him wear all black.
I hope this helps you.

Blessings,
