Are all people with autism strange?!

Question: I had a college roommate with autism who seemed to be a strange loser. He always ate food and was a flat slob. Even without his classes he looked really nerdy. He also did not have any friends and never dated. He was clumsy, uncoordinated at sports, and had a strong dislike for college sports and college athletes on our college campus. He would use his computer all day when he had free time and never went out and would get angry if I ask him if he goes to parties or go out. He also had an unusual habit of repeating the same thing to himself that he said to someone hours, weeks, or day ago 5-10 times in his bedroom and laughed at it even though it is not funny. He also was a big tateltale as a 23-year old and would go to an RA, a professor, or a dean if a fellow student called him an insulting name, hit, or kicked him instead of deal with it like most mature college students did.

What are you trying to accomplish by asking this question?
There are different levels/severities of autism. I'm not going to pretend to be an expert. But I do have some experience because my best friend's older sister is autistic. Autism greatly affects communication skills, but it doesn't make a person any less deserving of respect from others.

This boy's problems were probably intensified as a result of his peers' ignorance.

Great job in contributing to that with your unintelligent, loaded question.

You are just looking for people to say that your run-on paragraph is mean and insulting. My brother is autistic and I am just going to let you go on with life being ignorant to autism. You wouldn't listen to me anyway.

no, it depends on how bad the autism is. Their's differnet levels of ti

Wow. I kinda hope you are joking. Autism is a neurological disorder that affects many behaviors, cognitions, and emotions. The people with autism are incredibly varied based on severity, comorbidity with other disorders, and their own personalities.

All of the things you described above are possible with autism (awkward social skills, poor gross and fine motor skills, repetition of phrases, dependence on authority to help solve problems).

I am sure, however, that many of the things you yourself do are strange to other people -- and while people with autism may not act normal to you, learning to accept people for their differences is an important skill in life. It would serve you well.

You are asking a loaded question.

Not just Autistic people, but everyone is strange.
Everyone is unique!

People suffer from the condition called Autism. Some people who are affected have difficulties with socialising. It is a very difficult way to be and a lot of sufferers try to fit in. Computers seem to be a safe area for some. They might have this habit of repeating things. Rather than being irritated by this persons behaviour try to learn how difficult it is for them and relax and accept that this is the way they are. Being hostile to a sufferer is very counterproductive to you both. Try to encourage him to be more active by getting him to go for walks. Most people regardless of their problems respond to praise and encouragement.
