My Anti-depressant is making me lose TO MUCH weight!!?!

Question: ... ok this might seem like a stupid question, but Im 5' 6'' and I weighed 130lbs before I started Effexor XR. I've been on it for 3months and I dropped 16lbs now. Im an ugly 114lbs currently. I talked to my doctor and she that the side effects will go away.

It hasnt.

The thing is, I just cant "switch" to another anti-depressant, bc the withdrawl side effects of Effexor are HORRIBLE. I ran out of pills and had to go 3days with out them, and I honestly felt like I was going to die by day 3.

The other thing is that it causes extreme constapation for me. I HAVE to take like 4-6 laxitives to get a movement.. Before I started taking the laxitives, I went 3wks w/out a movement.. and it seems like the laxitives cause me to lose even more...

I eat enough.. and it has come down to me trying to over-eat to see if I will gain anything and I dont.. I really dont know what to do here..

I really would advise changing meds. I know going off it sucks, but your doctor could wean you slowly with smaller pills and maybe some Ativan or something to calm you.
Don't wait too long. I became way to thin on Adderall until the point where abunch of my husband's friends confronted me about my "obvious anorexia" It was very hurtful.
My doctor also told me it would go away, but it didn't. So I found a new doctor, got a new med and went back to normal.
I tried Effexor once for only a week, and ate hardly a bite on it. I'm now on Wellbutrin, which works fantastic for depression and ADHD.
So, if you get blown off on your next appointment, switch docs, and slowly work on changing meds. Better sooner than later, I think.
Good Luck!!

relax...wait a few more months if your still too thin tell your doctor that its not going away and you don't like this, make sure he knows that your really concerned

slowly go off of them like once a day to every other day or even just go a few hours longer until you can finally get off of them but i don't know that to tell you about the constipation but that's horrible
