Christianity and Tourette's Syndrome?!

Question: I am (sometimes) perpetually and involuntarily swearing and coming out with the most vile and crude things. It disgusts me (and my fellow Christians). Anti-psychotic medication helps. But people aren't very understanding. If only they knew, it's the last thing I want to be doing. It usually comes out with some stuttering and usually very loud. What should I do? The anti-psychotics don't always work, besides they have nasty side-effects.

Hi! My first suggestion is to not listen to a few of the other posters who added their input for seemingly no other reason other than to be mean and rude.

Now, my actual answer to you is to just make people aware of the issue. Some people won't understand, so expect that. I think truly educated people will understand though. That's your best line of defense.

I don't actually know anyone with Tourette Syndrome, but I have heard that relaxation can be very helpful. Finding ways of releasing your stress. (It may just be a rumor, but I have heard that people with Tourette have their worst episodes during times of stress).

Sorry I can't be of more help. I will pray for you though. I know the Tourette won't just disappear, but I'll pray that people learn to be more understanding about it.

not much you can do, except educate people about it as much as you can. obviously its not your fault!

You know what I'm suspecting causes tourette's ...but I'm probably wrong ....but it couldn't hurt to try it...to get rid of it. I know you must be miserable. I'm so sorry you have to go through this.

First, realize that your your problem has nothing to do with God. Think of it this way; if god existed, why would he keep doing this stupid **** to you, when you are overall a good person. Recognize there is no god, and that you just suffer from a neurological disorder, and that will be you first step in your recovery. You haven't done anything wrong, just like the mentally retarded, or the people who arrived still born... it just happens. God didn't cause it, and god can't save you from it.
Good luck to you in the future.
Peace, Tom

I don't know how much studying you do of the Word of God which is God and has power even over Tourettes. I understand the outburst and I am assured that out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. You actually only shout out what is in you, therefore you need to seriously input the Word and it will chnage what comes out of you, if not totally heal you because it can.

As for your Christian associates, they should be loving you through it because we all have issues only some are not as overt as others.

Seriously, God and His Word is the answer, literally, He is alive and expects you to cast your cares upon Him and know that by His stripes you are already healed.

I encourage you to be student and a son of the Word and find life in it.

Amen! I totally know where you are coming from.
