I discovered that I had claustrophobia a few months ago when I went to have an MRI. Nothing had ever bothered me before, but as soon as I was in the MRI machine, I freaked out and couldn't breathe. Now I have all kinds of stupid fears like that... I'm an interior house painter and on my last job I had real issues when it came to painting the closet.

It is strange, because I also know closets don't lock (at least mine and the one I was painting don't), but the idea still bothers me. I certainly couldn't follow the advice of those who answered before me because I would freak out if the door even started to shut. I don't know if there is much that you can do about it other than force yourself to think of something else when the closet fear starts to surface. I have a couple of happy-ish memories that I pull out when things like that are bothering me, and it helps some. And don't go thinking that you're not normal... there are a lot of crazy irrational fears out there. A lot of them that are even stranger that locking closets. :)

You might have claustrophobia. It is very normal to be afraid of being locked up in a small space with no way to get out. You should try to relax and if the fear interfears with your grades or life, then go to counseling and they have ways to help you with your fears =))

ya its cause every1 just has a stupid fear, if u dont then u prob just arn't thinkin of it, anyway just get over ur fear by thinking of how many people hav ever been locked in closets, and just dont go into closests i guess, im scared of a spider coming up from the toilet and biting me around my parts, it rly sucks cause i hav to use the toilet anyway, i just think about how many stories iv herd of that happening n ther are like none so im just starting to get over it, i dont even check the seat any more =D

First of all you fear is not stupid.Maybe you had some trauma in your life that is making you scared about being locked in a closet.Or maybe you had a bad dream or saw something to trigger this fear.Sometimes things can trigger you to have a fear of something or someone.

put yourself in a closet. then open the door and walk out. do it as many times as you need to....

have someone lock you in a closet at a random time. then have them let you out later. but you can't know when they are going to do it or how long it will last. after your in there for a while it should go away or at least be less of a fear.

Really bad childhood experience that you many not remember? Or a movie/tv show you saw when you were little? Who knows. Don't fell bad. That is an understandable fear unlike mine (I am scared to death of veggatables and I am 20...) They always say the best way to over to a fear is to face it. I would start out by just walking into a closet. Then one you are comfortable with that. Shut the door a little bit each time you are in there until you can shut it all the way. Then when you can shut it, I would have someone you trust shut you in there and hold the door. Eventually you'll realize there is nothing to be scared of and you may overcome it. (Just make sure you have a cell phone with you just incase you do get locked into a closet you can call someone to get you out. ;))
