Why do anti-depressants have varied effects on different people.?!

Question: I have been diagnosed with depression. For a long time I would not accept this fact until I had flew symtoms on a weekly basis.
I would get violently ill for no apparent reason.
I started taking Paxil that the doctor recommended.
My flew symtoms went away and life was great.
Then some of the side effects kicked in; difficulty sleeping, forgetfullness and a general feeling of being spaced out.
There were also some sexual side effects that I didn't care for.
I stopped taking Paxil and started taking Zoloft.
The next side effect I got was a tremendous ringing in my ears.
So I stopped taking Zoloft.
I then tried Wellibutron, now my skin has a pins and needles sensation.
I would like to hear from readers who are on some type of anti-depressant what works best for them. I'm at a loss what to take, I cannot go through the whole drug store trying to figure out what works best.

Hi John. The answer to your question is "Biochemical Individuality". Everyone's biochemistry is different.

The more important question is this: Why is your doctor trying to mask your symptoms with dangerous (and often useless) drugs, rather than finding and fixing the cause(s) of your brain's malfunction?

Has your doctor tested you for:
1) micronutrient deficiencies? (If not, why not?)
2) essential fatty acid imbalances? (If not, why not?)
3) Celiac Disease? (If not, why not?)
4) Food allergies? (If not, why not?)
5) Heavy metal toxicities? (If not, why not?)
6) Intestinal Dysbiosis? (If not ...)
7) Leaky Gut Syndrome - Intestinal Hyperpermeability? (If not ...).
8) etc. etc. etc.

The best treatment is treatment that fixes the CAUSE of the problem. Your problem is NOT caused by a drug deficiency.

You may want to find a better doctor.

Best wishes and good luck.

P.S. Sherry Rogers, M.D. has written an excellent book describing the underlying causes of depression and how to treat it properly. The book is called "Depression Cured At Last" (available at Amazon.com). I highly recommend it.

everyone's chemical make up is different and everyone could feasibly have a different reaction to a drug that everyone else. i took effexor for a short period of time and had no effects except good. it worked wonderfully. but that is certainly not to say it would do the same for you. i am certainly not an expert in this matter but i just know what works for some will be a nightmare for others. that i know for a fact. i hope you hit on something that will work for you.

Because there are no two people with the very same Nervous System or Chemical make-up. Just as there are no two people with the very same personality.

i have tried lexparo, cymbalta, zoloft, and prozac and they all gave me really bad side effects except for prozac which didnt work. Unfortunately, II have realaally bad anxiety and panic attacks but i dont seem to take anti depressants really well. Some of them gave me really bad mood swings, ringing in my eears, impaired my vision, and made me forgetful. The bottom line is that anti depressants really arent good for u because they change the chmicals in ur brain.
