ADD and ADHD basically refer to the same thing. The difference is in the terminology used, of which ADD is the older terminology. The "official" clinical diagnosis now is ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)(American Psychiatric Association, 1994). The change in name was made as a result of scientific advances and findings from field trials in which researchers found strong evidence to support the position that this medical condition is not one specific disorder with different variations.

As for the symptoms, there are many. You can get more info from this site:

The biggest difference between ADD and ADHD is the hyperactivity. If there is no hyperactivity, then it is ADD.
Can you tell if you have it? No. It has to be diagnosed by a diagnostic, clinical psychologist. There is usually a battery of tests that are involved that can take several days to complete.
ADD is almost a "mystery disorder" because it involves so much specific criteria. ADD and BiPolar are the most commonly mis-diagnosed disorders, because they are not "clean" disorders. That means that they share symptoms with a wide variety of other disorders, such as obsessive, compulsive, behavioral, oppositional, personality, stress, anxiety, and autism spectrum disorders all share similar symptoms.
It's a very complicated science. Please see a doctor.
