Is this an irrational fear?!

Question: If there's hardly any noise about the house and i'm just in the bathroom and the bath's running, i'll touch the water to check it's temperature but I have this strange fear that it's acid or is going to be, it just scares me. I get it when getting in so I have to stand for about half a minute, waiting in case of change.

I have something else too but this is less important. I also get really paranoid that the tap will turn itself on when i'm in the bath, but I think this one is just merely fear because of too many ghosty horror films lol..

But the first one seems a bit abnormal.. so.. is this an irrational fear?!

It is irrational because it is unlikely to be true, it is not logical and it is not helping you. For it to be rational it would need to be likely true and logical. But just because it is irrational isn't the end of the world neither are you commited to thinking those thoughts forever. Irrational thoughts are a lot more common than most of us let on.

I used to walk the dog and when we got to a big open space I realised that if a lion came out from somewhere that I would not be able to escape it - lol. So my imagination would take over and I would frighten myself. This sort of thing has happened to me when I haven't felt good about myself or my life. I try to sort it whilst accepting it is ok for it to happen to me.

yes it is irrational unless you have some twisted enemies.

what you have a case of is delusional thinking.

You would be best to see a therapist, not a psychiatrist, but common everyday councilor who will listen to you rant, and that will help a lot, trust me

It's not irrational i don't think any fear is irrational but it's a bit unusual

Sounds like you watch too many scary films and you have developed a vivid imagination, just relax and avoid these kind of films.

it is irrational but every one has at least one crazy fear. like i belive that people are poisoning the air in my room. but there is no way to get reed of it. im sorry. maybe take less baths... or just keep doing what your doing. like i said theres nothing you can really do... unless you want to go see a therepist of something.

It is irrational and unreasonable. Water does not spontaneously change to an acid. Plumbing is usually well cared for since you use the same source for drinking and laundry. You should be no more concerned with bathing than you are with cooking and drinking water from the tap. There are no records of this happening. It is physically impossible for a tap to turn itself on. It can develop a leak, but that won't be cause for alarm. That will be cause for repair.

If you cannot convince yourself of these facts, then you should seek help. Keep telling yourself that these things are not real and are not realistic. Tell yourself out loud. Hearing yourself say it will help.
