I'm extremely scared...?!

Question: I'm fairly young.. but I hyperventilate every single night because, well, I fear death. I wake up in the middle of the night, screaming "Oh my god.." because of it, and people think I'm crazy. I think I just need faith or something to believe in. What I don't need is atheists jamming in my face that when I die, I will just, decompose and nothing will ever happen. I need to know what's going to happen, just I don't wanna be scared anymore. I don't want to live with this fear. It's seriously ruining my childhood, and I don't know how people can't be afraid of this kind of thing. I wantt to believe in a Heaven, or waking up into a new life, or something. I've got to believe in something more.. And hopefully some of you hear me out, here. Please, someone help? :[[

No one can tell you with absolute certainty what will happen when we die. I am sorry, but there are so many ideas, and none of them can be "proven" as "truth" until we get there.

However, there is help. You may try to find the faith that best fits you. One way to help you figure this out (in addition to talking with your parents) would be to take a quiz on beliefnet.com

After answering the questions, the quiz will tell you that your beliefs are most similar to _------------ religion, and then it will provide links to more information on that religion so that you can learn more.

In addition to this search for more info on your faith, I am really concerned for you and this hyperventilating, and not being able to sleep. From this information, it sounds like you really need immediate relief from these extreme fears. For this help, I'd recommend speaking with a trusted adult about seeking mental health therapy. If you do not feel your school counselor nor your parents are able to understand these extreme fears, please seek help anyway.

Perhaps your counselor can refer you to a mental health therapist. Or perhaps you can get help through the YMCA, through the Department of Human Services, or through another teacher, coach, etc. at your school that you trust that can help you work through this.

Best of luck with this challenging time.

You sound like you'd like to find some sort of religion to believe in. Have you considered checking out different faiths over the Internet and by going to church services? This would be my recommendation.

Also, your fear of death seems to be more extreme than what would be considered "average". Do you have someone you can talk to about this? (a parent, school counselor, or another trusted ADULT?)

You'll eventually rationalize this fear.

There is NO reason to fear death.
Death no matter what you believe in is a release from pain.
It is inevitable.
Do not worry.
Life is fab! Live in the moment.
Everything will be ok.

the bible states, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the lord"

thats all I need to know..this tells me my soul will leave my dead body and return back to my lord who created me.

we all fear death, but you are to young to worry about that, go and live life, but remember to be good and kind to one another in your path of living.....

say your prayers and go to sleep in peace...

Gabby, there is a God in Heaven who loves you. He is like a loving father. Death is nothing more than passing from this life to the next. Relax and trust that God has a plan for you in this life and you need to focus on living and let go of your fears at night. If you can't then talk to someone you trust and figure out how to find some peace and comfort. Try prayer. I pray to God like I am talking to my Father. He hears those prayers and will answer yours with peace. He loves you. Try it.

If you're looking for a "magic bullet" to show you that heaven is real, unfortunately you won't find it. Faith by definition is based upon belief without proof. If you get proof and see it with your own eyes, that's "fact" not "faith".

That being said, there are some very nice books and some counselors that can help you with your own personal faith. Begin by talking to your school counselor about this, and from there see how you can go to someone with the approval of your family that can talk to you about your fears/feelings.

In the interim, try something to help you sleep like sleepytime tea or a homeopathic sleep aid like "Calms Forte" which I recommend often to people.

You MAY have an anxiety disorder, but don't quote me on it, I'm not a psychologist. If you go see one though, they'll be able to tell you if you do, and put you on something for it, which could help.

I'm atheist, but you can believe whatever you want. In my opinion not having an afterlife isn't so bad (assuming I won't have one), because, well... I'll be dead, I won't know any better.
Hehe.

But yeah, you might want to go see a psychologist.
Hope you feel better eventually, good luck.

I would suggest getting help, it won't stop, trust me I am scared of dying too, have you ever accidentally watched one of those shows about how the world is going to end, I do not suggest it. I freak out about stuff like that and tornadoes, I wish I had help, you should get some while your young before it ruins your life.

Although it may have to do with wanting to find something to believe in in the afterlife, which is likely the reason why people believe in religions. Anyway, you might want to talk to a professional as this fear is interfering with your life and perhaps has become your focus instead of focusing on other scary issues in your life.

wow thats a good question
i go to an anglican school and it is really forceed
but i dont really beleve in every thing they tell us
i actully beieve that we will never know what actully happens to us untill we actully die
i like to think that we will have another life after we die will will straight away become some one else with diiderent thoughts different feelings i even think the world will be compleitly different.
i dont ever belive that nothing happens to us some thing must happent to us.
so i think logecly if some one is dieing every second some one is being born every second!

well you can try to believe in god and just try not to listen to the atheists and what they say there is a heaven and just believe there is a better something that you could go to just have faith and believe and hun please try to live your childhood because it only comes around once so enjoy it while it's here,ok well good luck:)

well....it really depends on what you believe in, if your catholic or christian or w/e you may go to heaven, or you may go to hell, you may just wake up as someone else, or in all seriousness you may end up in my closet with no way out (its happened before)
