Short Term Memory Loss????!

Question: My friend recently got in an accident in which he fell 20 feet and landed on his head. I talked to him on the phone the other day for the first time in 3 weeks since he has been hospitalized. I talked to his mother today and she told me that he has had some problems with his short term memory due to the fact that he had a brain injury. I am going to visit him in the hospital tomorrow and I was curious to know whether or not he would remember that he had talked to me 2 days ago. I know I could ask him, but I don't think it would be appropriate. I just didn't know if he would remember that we had talked or if that sort of thing is more long term memory instead of short term memory. I just wanna hear from someone who knows about short term memory if I should be prepared if he doesn't remember that I sent him cards, talked to him on the phone, etc.

I am also wondering if will he remember that i came to visit him.. He knew who I was when we talked on the phone..
Thanks for your help!

I know this happens a lot with stroke victims and trauma victims and the elderly and the mentally retarded. Sometimes I can't remember something that happened today or yesterday...but if I wait awhile..I can remember it. Maybe it goes into the long term memory file then. I don't know if the memory is usually erased while in short term..or if it hangs around until it becomes long term. He might have remembered long enough to tell his mother you were coming..but it might have slipped away by now.Sometimes if people talk about it enough...I start to remember. I have PTSD..sometimes I wonder if during trauma I didn't have a little stroke too..never got checked for it.

i think you are too worried about his short term memory loss, versus being worried about him.
immediately there might be some memory loss, but it is temporary and should get better
