My 13 year old son has this disorder.

Yes, people do notice him. He is home schooled, so there is not really a problem with outright making-fun or bullying. I have found that when we are in public that if I just treat him "normally" people tend to follow suit.

We have been in situations and youth groups where kids would talk about him behind his back (this was reported to me by another child in the group, I was not there) but never to his face.

He really has not endured the out-and-out rudeness that is out there. I pray for him daily, as this will surely show it's ugly face eventually. Fortunately, he does not have Coprolalia so that is a blessing. His tics are moderate (head turns, shoulder shrugs, quiet grunts) so that makes it a little easier to deal with.

Plus, he is a great kid! He's funny, sweet and loving. He is talented artistically and smart. I would not trade him for the world.

I have the facial tics, which is tourettes. Some people have commented on my tics, telling me I look scary. They have no idea how hurtful it is, and how annoying they are. I get headaches everyday from squinting so much.

I knew of a lady who had it, and while sitting in public, she'd caw like a bird, just one loud CAW! every so often.

its fine. pretend ur like, doing something else. my math professeur used to give like a mew or bark somtimes. its awesome. lol

I have facial tics (nose twitch and I clear my throat a lot). People generally don't say anything because I usually bring it up straight away and make a bit of a joke out of it.

Even though I joke about it I'm still really sensitive about it. If someone were to say something offensive to me, I would probably tell them where to go and that making fun of somebodies neurological disorder is hardly comical.
