Hi Woody

Please use this link to the Mind website

Understanding depression:
http://www.mind.org.uk/Information/Bookl...

the information is easy to read and understand and will give you an insight into the illness.

It's never a good idea to self diagnose, so please, if after reading the information, you feel that you are suffering from depression make an appointment to see your GP.

I would suggest that you make a list of all the things that are causing you to worry and feel distressed, and take it with you. Then you can ask the Dr to read it, especially if you are upset or forget.

Your GP can advise you on what the best course of treatment is for you.

Hope this helps.

you want to be alone
lack of concentration - tv, newspaper etc
crying
eating too little/too much
can't sleep / too much sleep
don't enjoy the usual things

see your doctor

That's a very tough call to make and you might be the best judge of it, if you can see your situation clearly. Statistically, women between 13- 40 years old are more prone to depression than males. One good indicator is your sleeping pasterns. Ask yourself for how long you been feeling the way you do and if you stopped enjoying the things that you used to love to do before. I could give you a link but, there are just way too many, make a search and choose what you would like to read. One thing I can assure you, though: We have never, ever seen a depressed athlete. Weather you are depressed or not, you could try exercising and see what happens. Good luck and hope you feel much better?

You could be depressed that you are bored. If that were the case then you have too much time on your hands. Use that time for a hobby, going out, or reading a book.

Even if a person seems to have everything going for them, they can still get depressed. It's not only about environment, it's biological- a chem imbalance in the brain. If you notice any or all of the following: you feel like there's nothing in the world that really brings you pleasure, you can't bring yourself to do anything, you are isolating yourself from others, you've had changes in eating and sleeping, you feel hopeless, there's a good chance that you're experiencing some level of depression. It is not something you can or should deal with on your own. Seek help. Millions of people deal with depression a part of or all of their life, so it's not unusual, but it's also not something you have to live with.

Its a tough one. Many people who suffer from depression dont know they do, and most people around them dont notice it either. Often they are the life and soul of a party, a brilliant friend and person but for some reason they cant see that themselves, if your worried go to your doctor, dont suffer in silence, they're there to help you!

1. Hopelessness
2. Failure at everything you do
3. No Friends
4 No Money
5. Desire to be on the computer for endless amounts of time, asking really dumb questions

???

Depression takes many different forms depending on how bad it is. For me it's not wanting to get up and face the world each day. Nothing makes me happy or smile. I feel no joy in anything. I feel like I am only surviving each day and not living it. I very often wonder why I am still alive as life feels so unbearable.

People get depressed due to their job being stressful, or not giving them any satisfaction. Problems at home or in their love life. Just feeling really down and unhappy for a few days can me a minor form of depression.

Are you unhappy Mr. Black, I hope you are okay??

:-)))

As they say on TV all the time, "Only your doctor can tell for sure".
Most of the so-called signs of depression are meaningless; I have always preferred my own company; I prefer to be out in the woods than with folks; I am now old and have been disabled for more than 20 years, so I have lost interest in almost everything.
When they gave a free screening, the doctor told my wife that if she was wondering, then she wasn't! (It was free...)
So, you do not have to be exuberant; if you can cope, you are probably O.K., but if you are wondering, seriously wondering, see your doctor. Soon.

You could well be.
The depressed person is usually the last to know, your family or friends will probably notice it before you do.

Tell tale signs are
no fun in anything
lack of appitite
lack of sex drive
loss of intrest in things you enjoyed before
sleeping more
