Anyone else have this happen to them? (Overwhelmed, procrastination)?!

Question: When I am in a situation where I feel overwhelmed, I tend to almost "lock up" - just stop doing anything (procrastinate like mad) until I absolutely have to do something about it. This happens to me with everyday things - like paying bills or doing school work. I also have a tendency to get depressed. Does anyone have suggestions about what this might be? Are these anxiety attacks?

Yes - it happens to me the same way too. I have found that if I chunk things I have to do in little blocks of time and expect less of myself it helps me. I can write a long old list of things to do and basically do hardly anything, because I am easily distracted too. I don't know if it is anxiety, but being overwhelmed contributes to my procrastination too. Give yourself little rewards for doing something you procrastinate about. Like if you do your school work for a certain period of time, rent a DVD and watch that. Procrastination is very difficult to change though, I have been struggling with it all my life. I bet you get depressed because you procrastinate right?.. and also because you are overwhelmed as well? Also, one key point to your question is this...is there any one person who constantly pressures you about you procrastinating and then you become guilty, anxious and then overwhelmed, then depressed about what is "wrong" with you? Please consider is this - we all procrastinate in different areas, you are probably hardest on yourself and need to give yourself a break. Consider this: there are many controlling people who want you to be like them, i.e. structured, organized, "perfect" - think of your attributes and what makes you the person you are - procrastinators are special too!

i did that all the time. i do it now too. i want to play guitar but i guess i have no patience. even though i really wanna play. i just can't. i freeze and give up so fast. its so frustrating i can't stay focused. with school work i did it soooo soo much.

i get this, too. i get all excited to do something, and literally like 10-20 mins later, i'm like...nah, i'll get to it later. then i never do it!! or i get really bored with the idea shortly after i HAVE the idea.
i hate feeling like this.
