Acne has given me low self esteem & confidence.. how to improve it? plz advise?!

Question: I have severe acne on my cheeks. I am 19 and female. Everyone is all the time talking and discussing my face in my family. I know that they care but still. Whenever I am talking to them instead of looking at my eyes they are counting my pimples. Each morning they tell me i got a new pimple. I KNOW that! I mean when i wake up i do look at myself in the mirror.
I have started feeling ugly. I have really nice features, was really attractive but the last 6-7months have been hell. I am now on a drug, Roaccutane. They say it is really affective and my acne will be gone after 2-3months. But i am really upset.. I feel sad and feel nobody likes me.

How can i work it out???? How can i gain my confidence back?

Thx in advance..

You are so much more than some pimples that are on your face at the moment.

Have faith in the roaccutane, it is a very effective medication.

But did the doctor tell you this? The roaccutane will make your acne seem much worse for a few weeks (and you may also get cracked lips, and possibly nosebleeds). This just means the roaccutane IS working!

My best friend had the worse case of acne I have ever seen, not just on face, but all over upper back as well. Nothing worked, until roaccutane. It got much worse, then it cleared up once the roaccutane treatment was finished.

Since then they have just followed really basic skin care & have never looked back, their skin is clear!

This WILL pass, you can get through this.

One important thing - keep note of your mood whilst you are on roaccutane. Unfortunately in some people it triggers depression, even suicide - this is one reason why doctors won't prescribe it unless they have to, even though it is so effective. People with bad acne are already often depressed, as I am sure you understand, so it is important to be aware of this risk, just in case.

Most people don't experience this, but it is worth being aware of it. Any depression that is caused by the roaccutane itself will go away when you stop taking it.

Having acne is really crap isnt it? I have it on my chin and I was on medication for it. I understand about feeling self concious, I cant leave the house without makeup!. I fell pregnant so had to stop taking the meds, I never felt the benefit of it. Give it time and when you start to notice the difference on your skin, you will start to feel more comfortable about your face. See it as something to look forward too

You need to see a dermatologist, I had the same problem and know things have totally changed. No more acne at all. Don't live like this get medical treatment your life will change. The best of luck to you

I can only tell you what has helped a lot, not a cure though. You need to drink a lot of water, 2 BIG glasses in the morning when you first get up, then at least 2 more thru the day.. It cleans your system out. Then STOP drinking soda and eating chocolate for awhile. That mixture is very bad for you. In a while your system will be getting back into balance and your pimples will start to go away and your complexion will get better. It worked for my teenage girls.

Give the medication some time to work. Also, tell your family that what they are saying is very hurtful and doesn't help at all. Are you working? Can you work towards moving out? You may need to work on getting independent.

effective way to reduce stress is to do regular deep breathing exercises. Simply take a deep breath in and then out without straining yourself in any way.
