How can I cope with depression/sadness at night?!

Question: There are some nights when I don't get enough sleep because I'll get very sad and have crying spells. I don't know why I get so depressed during the night and is there any ways I can cope with it?

Hey, I know the feeling, I havent cried but there was a stage this time last year when I couldnt sleep when it was dark, I would be awake all nite and sometimes then couldnt go to bed till 5am 6am when it got bright. For the last 7 months its been fine, thankfully. I used to take Kalms, you can buy them in tesco. You can get sleep ones also, basically take 2 before bedtime, or take 2 3-4 times a day. They are pretty helpful. Try listening to some soft music and try breathing techniques, both of these relax ur mind and body. There is some cd's you can get for relaxation, basically someone telling u a story and you visulise it in ur mind, its pretty cool. I cant really say why it doesnt happen any longer, it could be a combination of the above. Perhaps try and find a friend who you c an talk to at nite time while you are in bed, perhaps a phone call for 30 mins or so before you sleep may ease ur mind. its tough going to bed every nite knowing ur not going to sleep. Hope this helps some way, perhaps join a forum online u are interested in and make friends thru there that you can chat with in the evenings. I hope and I am sure it will work out for you.

I would also highly advise getting Rescue Remedy, I noticed a new sleep/night one they have out last week. You should def try it, Rescue remedy is very very helpful. Good luck to you and remain as positive as you can.

some people go emo because of being depressed and they cant feel pain anymore. i dont suggest being emo, but you may want to give it a try..

messege me when u get a great answer cause i have the same problem =[

Try to NEVER sleep during the day, no matter how tired you feel. Once you are able to establish your proper cycadian (night/day) cycle, you'll be sleeping more regularly and feel better.

write your problem, mannbajaj@yahoo.com
http://www.mannash.com/health.htm folow the green color animation on page do this for 5 min daily before going to bed.

Attack night depression the same way you would attack day depression.

I recommend David D Burns' "Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy." This book will teach you how to identify & eliminate depressive thoughts.

When I feel like that (which is often), I pretend the sad part of me is a little girl and I have my adult self hold her and tell her everything is o.k. and I will take care of her. I know it sounds a little flaky, but it helps me feel better.

Try a glass of milk, and take a calcium/magnesium pill with it, about an hour before you go to bed.

Also, your doctor might prescribe a small dose of Klonipin for you. It helps a lot.

could you go swimming or for a walk? A nice warm bath with calming bubbles clean sheets and a good book and try leaving the window open a little, also how about listening to a chat show quietly on the radio you can then dose off without having to turn it off and if you wake up in the middle of the night alone its not so quiet and depressing good luck.

I have 2 solutions for your problem!
1. You do know why you are depressed. You have to ask yourself honestly why and then take some action- such as get out of that bad relationship, or find people to talk to.

2. If your sad and your able to use the internet, spare a thought for the poor people around the world who cant find and food or water today. Are you still sad with what youve got!?

I've been battling the same problem for more than 15 years, and I've found distraction is the best method. For me, it's playing my guitar or writing poetry or drawing, but for some people, watching a movie helps, as does listening to the radio, or even cooking.

What this does is get your mind focussed on something else.

Night is the time when I'm most affected, and I think it's because daytime brings activity, social interaction (to varying degrees), and a general feeling of not being alone.

Do you have any pets? Sometimes just having a cat or dog around can help.

At any rate, I wish you all the best. This is a terrible thing to be struggling with, but it's not forever *hugs*

Depression seems to set in for most people when they are physically tired.

You might try progressive relaxation before bed as a way to de-stress, I've used it when insomnia troubles me for years.

hope this would help

Some foods can alter your mood.
Eating fruits and veggies can make you feel better if you're down.
Eating things with lots of sugar or drinking coffee can put you into a somber mood.

I have had this for a long time. Wake up early. Run in the morning. When night comes, you'll go straight to sleep.
Many people get depressed because of lack of movement. Move around more, wake up early, NEVER sleep during the day, and you're all set!
