Is it a good idea to stop taking my Zoloft~Serious answers only!?!

Question: I've been taking Zoloft to treat my depression for six months and to be honest it isn't working and my depression is only growing worse. I stopped taking it for a few days and I need to know if it's all right to stop taking zoloft and does anybody know the possible side effects of not taking zoloft for just a few days? :<

You need to contact your doctor immediately. Do not start or stop anything without talking to the doctor first!

Its never good to stop taking a prescription unless your doctor says its ok. The side affects can be things like withdrawl symptoms. If your pills werent working i would suggest that you tell your doctor before you just stop taking them.

You need to speak with your prescriber so he can put you on another medication. It is not good for you to just stop on your own. Your doctor isn't a mind reader. If you haven't told him or her what is going on then he or she doesn't know.

Depends on how much you were taking and your body. Maybe you'll get off easy, maybe you'll feel horrible with brain zaps, nausea, migraines, and other nasty withdrawals. Cold turkey is never a good idea. Why not see your doctor and talk about it? If you don't want another AD, they you can at least get advice on tapering off. If you still are depressed, and you want, you can discuss other alternatives. Zoloft is but one of many antidepressants... and there always is therapy.

No, honey, definitely don't do that. Sometimes it doesn't affect you right away and then you experience a huge dip in your emotions and feel 10x worse than before you were on the meds. Everyone is right who says call your doctor and get a different dosage or another medication. Even if you go off meds entirely, you'll feel better if you do it under medical supervision. If you don't like your current doctor, go to someone else but go right away. I hope you feel better. Hang it there.

No. but ask your doctor if there is an alternative that you could do instead of taking pills. cuz they usually dont work

NO! I made that mistake when I went off it a few years back. Cold turkey plays heck with your brain chemistry. I think you're supposed to take 1/2 doses for a week then stop, you should look it up. But don't just stop.

If you're on 50 milligrams, as most people start out on, you might need 150, some do.

Sweetheart, I can't really tell you to stop taking your medication; for the simple fact in reality it may be helping in some way. I was placed on prescription pills like depacote, concerta, ritalin and none of that **** worked for me. I was on them from age 5 to 18. I stopped taking them all together and I feel fine. I go through my depression stages from time to time but I CAN CONTROL IT. I fall in and out of focus but not like I use to when I was a child. I always had a violence attitude but learn to calm MYSELF down, cuz angry management, and mental therapy classes don't work.
so if YOU want to stop cuz YOU KNOW WITHOUT A DOUBT it does NOT help, take steps winding yourself off (cutting down your dosage to eventually stop)
GOD BLESS

Not a good idea at all. Maybe you need an increase in dosage you know you can go up to 350 mg??

I Am taking 150 mg for anxiety, depp,& ocd.It is working great for me i wouldnt trade that medicine for gold it has done me soo much good.

Best wishes,
Nick
