Adhd pill Concerta help?!

Question: Okay.

So, i am turning 14 this month, and i just took my first 18mg of Concerta today.

I know this shouldn't have any affect on me ( seeing as they give 18mg to 7 year olds. ) But, about an hour after i took it,
i was kind of "wired". NOT hyper "wired" but more along the lines of "controled."

For instance, i would daze off and i would hear, " So turn to page 422" and i would quickly just turn to page 422.

It's 3:30 pm right now and my eyes feel a little sore. also my head feels really weird. Mostly my eyes are bothering me. It happened all day too.

Is this all in my head??

What should i do??

Please dont just inform me and tell how Concerta all started and crap and then link me some dumb website.

I have ADHD and know what you are talking about.

First, don't compare the dose with anyone else. Unlike most medication that works with the body, medication that works with the brain just needs to be right for you. I am on the same dose as my twleve year old son, but my daughter is on half the dose. It really varies person to person.

Secondly, when I first took medication it was VERY weird. Sure it worked but I had spent my life struggling to make things work without it. I would put extra effort to concentrate (what a joke) and when I first started meds I was super focused. This actually really tired me out. Now my brain seems to have got used to it and I can concentrate better on meds, but I don't get so tired.

Also, don't feel bad if one day you still feel as if your getting nowhere even on meds. That happens. You have those days, just let it happen, get nowhere and try again the next day.

Good luck.

it might just be you need to get used to it. or maybe its not for you.
and if it made you more controlled paying attention-wise. then thats what it is supposed to do. and calm you down if its right for you. people who get hyper from it are not add or adhd. and thats kind of a neat way to rule it out too

Seeing as you've only taken one low dose, you probably aren't feeling anything yet. It's possible that what you are feeling is just a coincidence, or a placebo effect. You should give these types of meds at least a week (ideally, several weeks or even months) before you decide that they don't/aren't going to work. If you are taking Concerta for ADD, it should help you stay focused and not "daze off" as much. Quickly snapping out of a daydream and turning the page may be your first taste of that, and you may feel even more benefits as you increase the dose. The goal with Concerta, like other stimulants, is to make you feel more alert and "controlled," but not wired. If you are feeling too wired, it is possible that Concerta is not the right medicine for you. Talk to your doctor about it-- there are plenty of other stimulants and non-stimulants to try.

As for your eyes and head bothering you... I'm not sure about the eyes, but Concerta can give you headaches.

Best of luck!

Hello, what you are experiencing could be a classic case of being a "first timer" on such drugs. It is well recorded that people who take stimulant drugs for the first time may become withdrawn, over-focused, teary and/or emotionally upset. These effects are generally short lived and wears off after a few hours. If they do persist, the advice of a psychiatrist needs to be sought.

Have a nice day.
