Your favorite Bipolar medication so far? Anti-Depressants and Mood Stabilizers?!

Question: alone or in combination, which has worked best for you?

Answers: alone or in combination, which has worked best for you?

My bipolar disorder is ultra-rapid cycling, the mood stabilizer that seems to work best for rapid-cycling, and certainly the one that works for me(believe me, I've tried them all!) is Lamotrigine (brand name Lamictal/Lamogine).

When anxiety levels are unbearable, relief from benzodiazepines is best for me, but it is important to be disciplined & only take them when you really need them, or you just end up with an addiction & worse. The benzos of choice in my case would be valium(diazepam) and lexotan(bromazepam). Xanax and Ativan are also useful, but they don't last long for me & they are more addictive.

I haven't had a major manic episode in a very long time (thanks to lamictal), if I did have another manic episode, I'd be looking towards the antipsychotics for the short term - I hate these drugs, but they do have their place. They include zyprexa, risperdal, seroquel and abilify. I can't pick a favourite antispychotic, they all have their downsides, but sometimes they are needed!

Hope that helps.

Busbar for anxiety is great

Xanax, haha. Not supposed to have it.

But other then that 60mg of Prozac and marijuana

ive been put on a few different meds the one that works the best for me is lamictal good luck to you i know its a difficult time that your going through trying to find the perfect meds to help you out. everybody is different hope you find something that works best for you

Lamictal and effexor combo

seraquil and prozac works the best feel hope for first time in about 4 yrs

I also take toprol a blood pressure medication for outburst and stress headaches but have not needed it much since seraquil. Have also with some sucess taken lexapro, zoloft, effexor with ok resutlts. Really fell apart when i stopped taken the zoloft lasy year

I've only been on antidepressants before since I didn't have an actual diagnosis. Since my diagnosis I've been on Topamax, Lamictal, Effexor and some sedative that I take so rarely I forgot its name. Compared to just the antidepressants, this combination is the most amazing combination ever. I think it could be tweaked so I'm a little less depressed but after being manic for so long this is great. I just miss the energy...

for someone such as myself who has had bipolar since 1996.I feel this question to be offencive noone that I know of likes to be on any type of meds for bipolar but yet we have to be not wanna be HAVE to be and for you to treat this illness like it is some sort of game show quiz is very offencive I don't care about how many thumbs up or down i get i am speeking my mindo this

None. Abilify almost killed me on half a tablet, Cymbalta caused me to want to commit suicide, and all the SSRIs and SNRIs have only worked temporarily. I'd have to increase the dosage until I maxed out. Now I'm on my first tricyclic, Nortryptaline, and it's the same as the SSRIs. I'm approaching max dosage.
