Advice, PLEASE!! I am so worried about a friend..!!?!

Question: I'll try to sum this up as best I can-- he & I are close friends. He has depression & is on medication. But the medication will work well for a while, and then not so much. He's cut himself last night & smoked again. He had been cutting & smoking before. A few weeks ago he was at a mental hospital for 4 or 5 days because he had been deeply contemplating suicide. He does see a therapist once a week & his family is very supportive.

What scares me the most is he is very ,very good at hiding things.

He is a senior in high school, I am a sophomore, if that matters. His girlfriend lives a couple hours away (she's a junior) & they appear to be quite in love & happy when their together---but I think it's taking a toll because they're apart & he thinks he can handle things when he can't.

If I went and I pulled him aside tomorrow morning, and simply affirmed, "We need to talk, " would that be a decent decision? (I'm not trying to solve things, but when we talk it seems to do him much good)

you can try writing him a letter telling him you're worried about him, and that you care about him and don't want him to end up in the hospital again. ask him if thres anything you can help him with, offer to hangout with him and keep him company so he doesnt feel alone - hes probably sad while his gf is away, maybe he just needs a friend to be there for him!

If his parents are very supportive, maybe you could talk to them as well. You may see things that he is hiding from them.

Definitely offer to talk to him, but let his parents know too.
