adhd is not caused by spoiling, if it were, I'd be the biggest adhd case on earth. I'm terribly spoiled, and have been for my whole life. I am also quite able to focus, and have always been so. adhd is just there, it's partial genetics, and partial environment (which can include diet, and toxins like drugs). Children who do not get an adequate supply of nutrients can have attention problems, but this is not a mystery. Most people have trouble concentrating when they are hungry. Drugs can aggravate adhd. Lack of sleep can cause and or aggravate it. But spoiling, never, that wouldn't be adhd, that would be a spoiled child.

Actually, ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder.

The condition has been around for a long time, but in the past it didn't have a name and it didn't have any treatment. The kids were just "bad kids" and were punished severely for acting out. Now we realize we were damaging these kids because their condition made it impossible for them to control themselves.

ADHD is not caused by spoiling a child. I taught in a school where children barely had enough to eat, so of course they weren't spoiled. Yet, we had cases of ADHD. The really rough part was teaching these kids to control themselves when their parents couldn't afford meds.

There is some scientific evidence that suggests that children whose mothers smoked while pregnant are at a higher risk of developing ADHD. This further proves that it is a physical condition, and not an issue of behavior.

The symptoms of childhood ADHD usually recede with the onset of puberty.

no irs a illness. p.s. to the person above me or a few above i would have a bigger adhd case, no offence

true adhd is a chemical inbalance in your brain, not from spoiling a child. Mabey some of his behaviors have characteristics of someone with ADHD but like I said true ADHD is a actuall chemical imbalance.

I have dealt with Two of my children having ADD, not the H because they weren't really hyper.
And it has nothing to do with being spoiled, we have good discipline in my house. I may have problems with consistency from time-to-time(every parent does). But my kids no there are consequences for unacceptable behavior, and that I will follow through with what I say.
My eldest now 14, is no longer on medication, (he was on Adderall from about age 6 to 12) after getting him to a point where he was use to his routine and helping him to learn how to focus, (no distraction from TV, and specific place for doing homework), the medicine just gave him that little extra edge, so his mind wouldn't wander, say out the window at school. And then he decided he didn't need it any more, we spoke to the Doc and she said ok.
My Middle child is 11, and she has been on Adderall for 2 years.
They're cases are not so bad, I let them have vacations from their meds during summer.(with doctor's okay) I think that's what helped my son learn how to cope without it.

adhd is not marked by an actual chemical imbalace- there is not a blood test, or mri that can detect ADHD- it is a behavioral disorder- my own personal theory is it is a learned disorder very early in life. Parents that do not focus, and maintain a scattered environment for their children seem to have relatively scattered children- I was diagnosed with ADHD- only tried meds once- never will again, I was one of the lucky ones in the case that my mom was so hyper but at the same time so anal retentive that she taught us to make more achievment in a scattered manner than most do in a tidy manner- so to one extent maybe that is why I have ADHD- to the other maybe that is why I can accomplish so much with ADHD
