Is Multiple Personality Disorder real? If so, what is the best way to help someo!

Question: I'll get a common misconception out of the way: Schizophrenia and Multiple Personality Disorder are completely different.
And yes, it is real. It's technical name is Dissociative Identity Disorder.

The person develops one or more alternate identities to "dissociate", (hence the name) or disconnect from an overwhelming situation or feeling.

This is a severe problem and the best way to help is get them to a professional. By the way, when they are this "other personality", they have no recollection of it. They do not chose when to dissociate, it is not free will, and most don't even realize they do it until diagnosed.

By the way, if you're concerned for yourself or another, it will be relatively obvious. This person will not just have fluctuates in some personality traits, or inconsistent emotions, but a full blown, completely separate personality.
Good luck ;D

It is very real, but often misdiagnosed, so see Dissociative Identity Disorder, (its current term) in section 17, at http://www.ezy-build.net.nz/~shaneris where there is much by way of information, and resources.

MPD, or dissociative identity disorder as it is sometimes referred to now, is absolutely real.

How much you can help someone really depends on the severity of their disorder. There is sometimes really nothing you can do other than get them medical help, as managing it usually takes a combination of talk therapy and medication. Behavior therapists are usually the best solution for this. It can take years sometimes to make a breakthrough but it does happen.

Just cast out the demons you must fast and be right with Yahweh before you are able to confront these kind of evil Spirits, if that does not work than take the medical rout. Hope this has help you you can find more information on casting out demons hope this help some God bless you and give you wisdom to know what to do. Anna

It's very real. I agree with all that Emma said. Being completely unware of separate personalities and experiencing amnesia is the most extreme form of dissociation.

I would also like to add that you can have multiple personalities and not experience the amnesia. It is possible to have multiple personalisties and have them aware of each other. It called being co-coconscious or co-present.

It already been said, but persons that suffer from DID need professional help to recognize and intergrate his/her personalities reversing the dissociation.
