Your body will be quite used to it's normal dose if you've been on the tablets for more than 2-3 weeks, so you will notice it when you reduce the dosage, even gradually. You may experience some mild withdrawal symptoms but you are doing it exactly the right way by cutting down gradually. If you just stop bluntly, well then you'd really notice! You may notice you take longer to fall asleep than taking full strength & you may wake during the night or earlier than usual. But I wouldn't worry too much, symptoms will only be there for a few days to maybe a week maximum. If your symptoms are too noticable & uncomfortable, try 3/4 for a week or so then 1/2 for another week & then 1/4 for 4 or 5 days. Then stopping should pose no major problems. Just realise that it will take a while to settle back into a normal & natural sleeping routine & be sensible, avoiding caffeine, cigarettes, alcohol, heavy meals or exercise or anything too hectic or frantic before bed. Just try to take extra care to relax naturally, maybe try some hypnotic relaxation CD's or some soft music or light reading before bed, if you have a partner ask for a gentle massage before sleeping. Or do what I do, cuddle my cat!

they will still make you tired but it will just take a little longer, id probaly take it a half hour earlier then you normally would

you are doing it the right way, take it slowly and the side effects will be much reduced. in about a week i would quarter them and then a week later an eigth (if poss). Try replacing them with exercise, a warm bath, avoiding caffeine and homeopathic remedies if you have side effects.

Good luck

you are just going to have to ween yourself off of them & try natural ways to fall asleep, like reading a boring book, drinking warm milk with honey in it. that might work simply because its different than what you have been taking, ya know like if you grow accustomed to something then you build up an immunity to it, so something much weaker might knock you out. Also, allot of the times when people cant sleep, its b/c they have so many thoughts in their head. you could try getting a journal & writing all the thoughts that are in your head down to clear your mind befor you try to sleep. a freind of mine cannot sleep w/o a fan on her face. that might help you too. not sure but i hope you get off them with no trouble sleeping without them. they can be very addictive. Oh & try sleepytime tea. that works....best of luck.

I have tried several times to get off them but then can't sleep at all. Instead I have these nightmare type trances which are broken up every two hours and are not beneficial to me. I hope you can get off. I heard it take 2 to three weeks to return to regular sleeping patterns.
