Anger Issues...?!

Question: I have horrible anger issues...I can control how I vent very well...but it eats me up inside when I just need to hit something or someone...It builds up and builds up... I'm 18, and I've been diagnosed with bi-polar disease 4 years ago...my medicine only makes it ten times worse...

Any stress techniques I can do w/o wanting to kill someone?

I, too, was diagnosed with bipolar and I had to try several different fegimens of medication before the doctor and I found the right combination for me. If I were you I'd find a really good team of doctors, both psychiatrist and psychologist to speak to so that they can work together on the right combinations from physical and mental effects of medications that will together work with your individual condition. They together will help you with coping devices that you will better be able to use to your advantage according to the effects of the meds as well. It takes some time, but in the long-run is very helpful and is worth the wait of finding the correct combination for your own personal recovery of stabilizing it and controlling the condition itself and directly too.

You need to talk with your mental health provider to let them know that the medication is having the opposite effect on you. Because you're eighteen, you should be able to handle calling your doctor on your own without your parents permission.

You may want to enroll in some anger management classes (just check the yellow pages in your area). Until you get on the right medication and when it takes effect (which can be at least one month), you should remove yourself entirely from the situation that's making you angry. Good luck.

yes , and God bless you for acknowledging your problem . Go outside , and enjoy the breeze . Breathe deeply several times . Go to your church or synagogue and talk to your pastor or rabbi . If you don't belong to a church , that's ok . Talk to a good friend , maybe your mom ? . Make sure you take your medications , and eat healthy . Good luck >
