Some good answers thus far.

It does sound like a panic disorder, possibly associated with general anxiety or mild depression.
I see someone suggested the fear of sleep, but from what I'm getting it doesn't sound like you're afraid to go to sleep, you just can't because of small pains that are causing a fear....?
If this is the case it might be mild hypochondria - the fear of getting sick or having diseases. Either way it sounds like you should see a doctor. Your GP or any regular physician will do if you're not into therapy, though there may be something at the root of this issue that's worth figuring out from a psychologist or other mental health expert. My guess is they will probably prescribe either an anti-anxiety drug such as Xanax whcih you can take as needed to help you calm down, or a sleeping aid. You may just consider over-the-counter or natural medicines over prescriptions, but that should be consulted with your doctor.
It may be as simple as (like another answerer suggested) turning on the TV to help keep your mind focused. Also, I have had some personal luck relieving such anxieties with regular practice of meditation. (Not for everybody but keep an open mind).

Whatever you do, don't try to ignore this, it may just get worse.

Good Luck!

I know where you live.

therapy[=

You're paranoid.

I get that way sometimes too.

leave the TV on, not too loud, ( on the news) it will keep your brain from thinking about crazy things..

is something important coming up, like a dance or wedding, if so you might be nervous, i never heard of this, but if ur a kid, u might be nervous or something, or you ate something that is LOADED with carbs and calories, take a sleeping pill, that will help, if it gets worse go to the doctors =D

it's Hypnophobia a fear of sleep. You just have to keep telling yourself you will be fine. You have gone to sleep all these years and woke up fine. Any bad things that could really harm you in your sleep would wake you up. So it's not like you will sleep through it and make things worse.

I dont think there is a specific name for this fear, I have it too but when something like this happens to me it always ends up with leading up to thoughts of death which I am petrified of. It seems to me you have panic disorder which can cause these fears to trigger amongst others that can develop down the line. It can cause insomnia like your case. You need to go to a mental health doctor or even get a referal from your primary, if this goes on it can get progressively worse. BELEIVE ME! Best of luck to you.

Well, you probably have a touch of hypochondriasis, which is a condition where someone worries excessively about their health and possible illnesses that they might have. You also seem to be suffering some sort of anxiety disorder, and possibly panic attacks. Don't worry, I use to get really paranoid like this too, to the point where I wouldn't fall asleep until I was physically exhausted from washing my hands. I grew out of it, but I would suggest that you see a psychiatrist (through a referral from your doctor) and they can help you work through your fears so that they no longer disrupt your sleep. And remember, you're not alone
