Question: For the past few years i have been sleep walking 3 times a year but now this year i have been sleep walking 3 times a week and every week my sister sees me talking, eating, fighting and even using the bathroom while sleep walking.

I am afraid that i might hurt some one in my family my family told me to go to a sleep clinic but i said there isnt one in new york city because i will feel embarrassed because i feel that no one outside my family should know about it.

Actually, current studies into sleepwalking are suggesting that it occurs in those who aren't getting good sleep. So the idea is to get good sleep.

First, make sure to go to bed at a time that will give you at least 7 hours of sleep and preferably 8 or 9 hours.

Avoid using the computer or watching TV for at least an hour before going to sleep. The light can simulate daylight, and confuse your mind's biological clock into thinking its daytime. This will cause certain hormones and enzymes to be released into your bloodstream to wake you back up.

Try reading or something else you find relaxing instead.

Also, try warm milk. Warming it up also provides enzymes in the milk to activate that will help you to sleep.

And finally, set an alarm clock. Studies found that people who were supposed to get up at a certain time but didn't have an alarm set kept waking up all night. They were afraid they were going to oversleep, and so kept waking up all night. Setting an alarm can set your mind at ease that you will wake up on time, and that will allow you to sleep.

As you get more sleep, you should find that this sleep walking will drop off.

If it doesn't, you might have to just go ahead and go to a sleep doctor; regardless of your feelings on the subject.

have some1 tie you down before you go to sleep and eventually you'll get used to not goin any where and you won't sleep walk

I would go to the family doctor and tell him before you hurt yourself. He should put you on medication to sleep!

make a whole bunch of traps with noise making things.

Well I was sleepwalking when I was on certain meds. It was like I was in a consious enough to get up and walk and go to the bathroom but I wasnt aware I was doing it. Then I would wake up in a STANDING POSITION BY MY DOOR it was WEIRD but when I got used to or went down on my meds it stopped. If you are not taking MEDS then you should consult a doctor. It is no big deal.

First of all don't be embarrassed. Sleepwalking happens! Ask your doc for a referral to a sleep clinic. Even if there is not one in NYC; I'd bet there's one relatively close. I too am a sleep walker. Walked right out of a trailer door once. Slight problem ~~ no steps!!! : ( I fell about 4 feet onto a concrete block.
